Anyone know what species?
Adult or fledgling?
Does it need heat?
Neighbor found on sidewalk this rainy evening and scooped it in a box.
Have not tried to let it fly or see if it can. It can "flutter" it's wings.
Seems to move around ok but just wants to perch and sleep.
In a container w/ paper towel nest, shredded newspaper and toilet paper.
With small dish water, dark warm and quiet.
All advice appreciated, I don't do birds....

Adult, some kind of migrating warbler.
No heat, tend to get these guys this time of year and in the spring.
I dose high with meloxicam 1 mg/kg twice a day.
Looks like he is perking up
Needs LOTS and LOTS of nice plump hydrated mealworms, little crickets are great if you have a reptarium

If he's alright by morning and I test his flying can I just let him go?
...or do I need to call on a bird rehabber for him?

My guess? Female common yellowthroat.

Just my humble opinion step, but I do think that if he seems fine in the morning,
I would open the door.
Careful where you test those flying abilities. Take him out to a tree,
close but far enough away to see if he can make it. (~30-40 feet)
He possibly could have hit a window and just "stunned" himself.
Hope to hear a progress report soon. :hug

After consulting with two rehabbers who specialize in song birds I learned
this little was a Nashville Warbler and they migrate at night. With the rain and
wind last night as mentioned it probably flew into something and just stunned itself.
It did fine overnight, was very active this morning, very vocal and wanted out.
It has been set free....:dance
It flew fine and straight up into the top of a tall oak where it lingered for a moment
and then took off to continue it's journey. God speed pretty bird, be safe. :Love_Icon
