Possible Eye Infection

I have been caring for a baby flying squirrel that I rescued from my dog 8 days ago, we think he's about 6-7 weeks old. I've been feeding him formula and he's even starting to nibble on pecans and apples. A few days ago I noticed a white film over his eyes and now they're completely sealed shut. I've washed them with a warm cloth which helps him get them open but within a few minutes, they're usually sealed shut again. Has anyone dealt with this before? Any advice would be greatly appreciated...thank you!

I haven't encountered this before, but I am concerned that it may have something to do with diet. What formula and how much and often are you feeding? Nuts are for treats only after they begin to eat a good diet including rodent block. Flyers require additional protein and henryspets.com sells high protein diet blocks that I would recommend feeding.
