First time squirrel mom just noticed that her two squirrels age about 6 weeks going on 7 who just started climbing and jumping this week - gone super active from only sleeping, are "balling up their paws" into a fist, one at a time; curling them under, in my opinion it looks painful. They have done this for about two days now. When they are not holding their fists like that, they are playing and jumping like normal.

They just started climbing the 1/2 inch hardware cloth, and jumping onto it, at first I thought that maybe they had bruises.

Both squirrels are doing this. They are on Fox Valley 20/50 and have rodent block to nibble on.

I am just wanting to make sure that it is not the MBD thing, or anything I don't know about. I don't want to passively overlook something if there is something I should know.

Thank you for your thoughts.

In my limited experience this may be normal. They come beg at the door for nuts like that.

But hopefully someone more experienced will chime in soon.

Sounds like "paw tuck" :grin2...it's the cutest thing when they do that!

Aww, that is cute! That is the fist they are making, thought it might have been a little more turned under where these are turned in, but only with one paw at a time, so that is what made me think that something might be amiss. With both paws held like that it does look cute. Mine have not yet done it with both paws at the same time.

I'll keep watching them and see what develops, thank you so much for your thoughts.

Thank you. I'll keep and eye on it. There is a good chance it is normal, I just did not want to assume wrong. I replied also to the post below this one.

That is because there are two versions and they are just learning.

There is the "SPT" (Single Paw Tuck) which you are likely seeing practiced now. Then they will advance to the more difficult "DPT) (Double Paw Tuck) which is considered an 11 on the 1-10 Scale Of Cuteness. And almost guaranteed to wring a treat from the hardest of hearts...

Just makes me laugh! To think I was actually concerned there was something going wrong... and all they were doing is developing cuteness.

Thanks again!
