Hello I am a newbie at being a squirrel mom! I have a baby female squirrel about 7wks. Old. I believe that it is a grey tree squirrel. I live in the south. I first warmed her like was showed on here with a plastic bin filled with cotton t shirts and a heating pad on low underneath on outside. I fed goats milk mixed with yougurt and heavy cream until I got my fox valley 20/50 yesterday. Had to mix half and half because she at first didn't want the 20/50. I put more 20/50 than the goats milk this morning and she took it well. I will keep doing this until she is on 20/50 100%. She is a pig! Lol It scares me because she wants to eat so fast! I don't want her to aspirate. Got her some HHB yesterday also. Ok. So here are my questions.
1. Do I give her formula in morning first or the Hhb?
2.How often does she need formula?
3.Do I need to give her water during the day with syringe?
4.Is Pedialite good to give or just plain water?
5.If Pedialite is ever used, do I use plain or can she have a flavored kind? I know it has Red 40 and blue 1 in it. Didn't know if that would cause problems.
6.How long will she need to have the heating pad? I want to move her in to a cage. Will she still need the heat? What needs to be in her cage? She is inside too.
7. What does everyone do for their squirrel to receive sun? Do they need sun? Everyday? Can't put her out because of cats.
8.So are Hhb and formula good for now until she starts eating the blocks?

I apologize for so many questions. I just want her to have everything that she needs. Oh I bought some nipple to go on syringe but she wanted to just about swallow it and didn't do well on it so I ordered the miracle nipple. Havnt tried that yet. Hoping she would do good on them. I have the syringe that Hhpets sell but she want to take it so fast and if I don't hold back she sucks it on down too quick in my opinion. But so far so good! Thank you for reading and thank God for people like yall to be here to help! And I apologize if this is the wrong forum to post this. Please feel free to move if needed.

Heating pad should only be half under container so they can move to cooler side if get too warm.
What size syringe are you feeding with? Do you have a weight on this baby to be feeding the proper amounts which are between 5-7% of their body weight? Got her some HHB yesterday also. Ok. So here are my questions.
1. Do I give her formula in morning first or the Hhb?
Babies should be fed formula on a continuous (age appropriate) schedule until they ween themselves.
2.How often does she need formula?
4-5 hours, Depending on baby's needs.
3.Do I need to give her water during the day with syringe?
That depends on is she fully hydrated? Are her poops formed?
If needed hydration can be given in between formula feedings.
Water should be provided in cage w/ dish, water bottle or both with eyes open baby.
4.Is Pedialite good to give or just plain water?
Pedialite should not be given over 48 hours, a homemade hydration solution without the chemical flavoring and dyes pedialite contains is best.
5.If Pedialite is ever used, do I use plain or can she have a flavored kind? I know it has Red 40 and blue 1 in it. Didn't know if that would cause problems.
Answered above...
6.How long will she need to have the heating pad? I want to move her in to a cage. Will she still need the heat? What needs to be in her cage? She is inside too.
Babies like the warmth, when she starts moving off the heated side would be a good indication it's no longer needed.
7. What does everyone do for their squirrel to receive sun? Do they need sun? Everyday? Can't put her out because of cats.
Some members provide sun replicating lights, some members move their babies into an outside enclosure to get sunlight. You never want to have baby in direct sun, they can get overheated and sunstroke.
8.So are Hhb and formula good for now until she starts eating the blocks?
Really don't understand this question! HHB's are block if you are referring to Henry's healthy block. (HHB's)
Block should be provided with eyes open babies as their first solid food, they should be eating them and eating them well before any other foods are introduced. As stated, formula should be fed as long as baby takes it until he decides to wean himself.

I apologize for so many questions. I just want her to have everything that she needs. Oh I bought some nipple to go on syringe but she wanted to just about swallow it and didn't do well on it so I ordered the miracle nipple. Havnt tried that yet. Hoping she would do good on them. What is the size in ml/cc's of the syringe you are using?
A 1cc is recommended, a 3cc is sometimes used for those experienced.
But so far so good! Thank you for reading and thank God for people like yall to be here to help! And I apologize if this is the wrong forum to post this. Please feel free to move if needed.

Thank you stepnstone for your reply. Answer to your questions are down below.

Heating pad is only under half of the bin. Sorry I didn't mention it.

I am using 3ml syringe I bought from fox Valley. I have the miracle nipple and she is doing well on them. Just weighed her and she weighs 79 grams. Yes I know about the 5% 7% of their body weight and right now she is eating 5 ml 3-4 times a day plus her Henry's healthy blocks.

Yes her poop is formed. Right now it looks like rat droppings. Small and black but I suspect that will Change when these blocks get in her system. She just started blocks yesterday and she has just starting shredding them.

Is Henry's healthy blocks and her formula all she needs right now? I know I need to wait before giving her anything else until she is eating the blocks really well. When she is eating them well, what is a good veggie to start with? And do any members feed outside plants from outside? If so what?

I was wondering what to put in her new cage to make her feel welcome.
Thank you so much for answering.

Hi LGM, welcome to TSB! :Welcome So glad you found us. Sounds like you have a good start on caring for your little girl. Once she is eating the blocks well, I would introduce a few veggies, one at a time. I usually start out with things like broccoli stems, califlower, and small pieces of carrot. Your little one will probably just nibble at first, but I have had good success beginning with these veggies and then going from there.

Once she is eating blocks and veggies well, wild foods are defiantly encouraged as a part of their diet, especially if you plan to release eventually. Here is a link to the chart for a healthy diet - it includes wild foods safe to give your little one.
