Hello everyone, I am looking for another junior or baby squirrel to pair with my squirrel for release eventually I can build an outdoor cage on my property or it could be done on yours., I am in Toronto. My squirrel is about 8 weeks or 9 weeks old now and he is doing amazing, I do this little wrestling thing with him with my hand like we're fighting and attacking each other and he loves it but I obviously do not want to continue that as I want to release this guy eventually. I plan on building and outdoor cage and he will live out there for a month then you'll have access to it all winter long. But I need to pair him up with another squirrel, if anybody has a baby or a junior that they also to be paired up please get back to me :-) I'm in Toronto:grouphug

You don't plan on releasing him this winter do you?? With such a little guy, he needs to be overwintered inside and then let him go into the release cage in the spring (when food is available for him out there)

He sure is adorable, I love that pic!

well it would be at the end of October, & I can keep a cage a large cage a release cage, inside the shed. and keep it open available all winter long? I will not be able to keep this squirrel inside my house until spring. wouldn't it be detrimental for him to be with me alone for the next 6 months? Wouldn't he be to adjust it to people?

lots of people overwinter squirrels in their house. No need to worry about him getting "used" to humans because he's with you all winter. They wild up pretty easily when you start preparing them to be released. It's a gradual thing, letting them get accustomed to being outside, and then letting him go free. But he is just a baby and he would have his momma with him all winter helping him survive. There's not much food for him to stash for winter if he's released in October and he wouldn't have a nest to go to either.

He could die out there, even if he has a release cage in the shed. I'm not an expert so I hope someone else chimes in. It would be best to find someone in your area to take this baby and overwinter him and do a soft release in the spring. :)

I have an 8 weeks squirrel that we saved from the backyard pond 3 weeks ago. We brought to wildlife rehabber and they said they can only humanly euthanized...Cannot do that so raising her now. Super healthy and sweet. I would love her to have another friend to grow up with and we cannot keep squirrel in our part of state. How to send it to you?
