To make a long story short, I ended up with a baby squirrel today that had wandered into someone's garage yesterday (leaving him out for the mother to retrieve was no longer an option by the time I got involved). I'm guessing he is almost five weeks old and his eyes are just starting to open. They were keeping him in a bucket and feeding him a mixture of milk and peanut butter! He was dehydrated but otherwise seems relatively healthy. I gave him two doses of body temp Pedialyte so far and I went out and bought Esbilac to start feeding soon. He was quite vocal and cranky when I got him but now he is curled up in a fleece sack on a warm heating pad.
I have my baby squirrel rehabbing instructions from the Mid-Atlantic TSB gathering and I would very much like to raise & release him myself. However I work full-time and I return to work Tuesday morning so I don't know how I'd be able to feed him every 4 hours or so. I could try to appeal to my boss to let me bring him to work but I work in a doctors office so it would probably be frowned upon. Also I work about a half hour away so it wouldn't be convenient to drive home for feedings. Is there anyone in the Enfield CT area who could squirrel-sit on weekdays?.. lol.
I know there is Chris the rehabber in Somers CT but she is hard to get a hold of and I know she is inundated with baby squirrels this time year. I'm sure Gayle has her hands full as well. Any ideas??

Wish I were closer, would pop him in with my three, but I am in MA, north of Boston.

:hyper Oh! How exciting Allison:Love_Icon He's soooo cute :squirrel4 listen I'm in about the same boat....I got a little girl Thurs....her eyes had just opened, too. What I'm going to do is feed her actively through the evening and wake up in the night to feed...that way during the day it will be her night :dono it's just a matter of 2 weeks or so when it will be easier to stretch the feeding times :dono I don't have much choice either...I'm more flexible and closer to home so I could feed at lunch...but the first weeks at school are pretty hectic :crazy1 so it will be easier this way....you could probably get away with one feeding during the night...just an option:great
I'm just so excited a baby found his way to you :grouphug What a lucky, lucky little guy :blowkiss

I have 2 other slghtly younger babies who are going to another rehabber on Tuesday. I am not sure where she is in CT, but I would bet we can work something out to get them all together. Let me ask her and get back to you.:thumbsup

Julie, you are a genius!! What a marvelous idea about "turning night into day." I will have to try that if it comes down to it.
On the other hand, I think I might have to take Gayle up on her offer if the other rehabber agrees because I want to do what's best for the little guy and it would be the least chaotic option for me. I will be sad to see him go but I'll be happy to have been able to take care of him for a couple days at least. It's a dream come true! I guess we'll see how this plays out.
His eyes popped open last night btw!

:w00t Eyes opening to the world :klunk He's precious....I have to laugh...you are probably the most prepared finder ever...after years on TSB, the Gathering...with lots of hands on:grin3 You'll do great:thumbsup But I do understand your wanting to do what's best....if I could find a rehabber with babies I would probably send my little one there....problem is...the longer I have her the more particular I become about where she'll go :eek :facepalm cuz you just know "no one is going to love them like you do" I'm really a "head case" :crazy1 :dono

Got the okay from the other person. She will be happy to take all three instead of just my two. Where in CT are you?

Ijust have to say that RVR is the real deal! She found and fell in love with this baby squirrel. However, she recognized that her schedule was not conducive to raising a baby and that she needed squirrelly company. She put this little one first and gave her to a licensed rehabber.
TSB has taught RVR well. The rehabber was totally impressed with the wonderful condition of the baby. They named her Allie in honor of Allison (RVR).
Nice job allison! Your day will come!:Love_Icon

Wow Gayle, that is high praise. Thank you for such kind words!:thankyouIt means a lot to me. :hug I sure do miss the little bugger :Love_Icon but I know she's in great hands. Thank you again for helping coordinate the meetup with Melissa- she was SO nice. That was very sweet of her to name the baby after me... but with a name like Allie, she's bound to be a troublemaker!! :grin3
Maybe one day I can work toward getting a rehabber license but for now I don't mind being an 'intermediary'... anything to help squirrellykind.
