Hello everyone, I have recently gotten my second sq.
my first was named jim and was sucsessfully released back into the wild.
This new one I believe is female. and I was thinking she was about 5 weeks old.
no name yet, but here she is,
was wondering if you think she is about 5 wk and what kind of sq she is?

She looks to be an eastern grey.
Eyes open at 5 weeks, by looks I'd say she is closer to 6 weeks old.
Below picture will help you determine actual sex of your little.

Her eyes are open, she's not too active she is wanting to just curl up into a ball and sleep and nuzzle into the fleece i have her in.
I did realize that her tail as been de-gloved. however it is scabbed over and looking fine and not infected or anything. (my previous sq also had a messed up tail)
I just got her 2ish hours ago so im trying to let her settle in before i weigh her and everything but ill keep you guys posted. :)
I thought maybe the baby squirrel questions area may have been better suited for this post.

I'm "assuming" you know to hydrate first and what formula
to feed along with having the proper syringes to feed with?
I can move/ relocate this thread for you....

Yes i know. :)
i have a few 5 cc syringe, and before i fed esbilac powder formula, that is still the preferred method right? after hydration of course.
If you think this post is better suited for the other board you can move it, I just did not want to cause any problems being here since i just wanted clarification on age and to announce her arrival into my care.

A 5cc is too large for feeding a baby squirrel and has a greater risk of aspirating due to the flow.
A 1cc is preferred with nothing greater then a 3cc to those with experience.
The (new) esbilac with the pro & pre biotics is what most are feeding.
I did move your thread but will move it back so you'll get the attention
and suggestions of others more readily regarding her care.

I have been feeding using a 1cc syringe, its just easier i think aside from the constant reloading, she ate about 7.5 ml
and is now napping, once she starts eating she goes into a frenzy trying to shove the whole syringe in her mouth, or when it runs out she looks for another place to eat.
i dont think she has top teeth, but her eyes are open.

You do need to know the baby's weight to properly feed her, she should be eating between 5-7% of her weight each feeding. Over feeding causes complications as well as underfeeding deprives of daily needed nutrients.
