My 6 week old grey is being aggressive. Normally he will let me pick him up and Fred him. Tonight I went to feed him and he started growling and jumping at me like he was going to bite. He's never done this before so I am a bit concerned. He's my only squirrel right now and he is still on formula. I dont understand why he is suddenly acting like this. He will usually let me pet him with no problems, also. I dont know if I just startled him or what's going on.. any help is good help, thank you.

Any new odors... new soaps, perfumes, etc. he may have got a whiff of and was unfamiliar / scared / displeased?

Has he started any solid foods yet? If so he may have "stashed" some food somewhere and is being aggressive about protecting his hoard of goodies.

He should not be getting any nuts at 6 weeks, but if you are giving nuts those can make them aggressive as well.

Babies go through a fear period, shortly after their eyes open. Some you don't really see a difference, but others, whoa....lol Just keep softly talking to him, always announce yourself before you put your hand in. It should pass. I have had a few that would really make quite the fuss, and fight to get away from me. If they are really bad, then I feed through the bars, or just put my hand in the cage with the syringe, but don't grab them (usually after they eat, they are better, so you can potty after they eat.)

No new smells or anything like that. He's not eating solids yet and I only have rodent block in for him. I think maybe I might have startled him. I usually lightly pet his head to wake him up for feeding and I didn't do that last night but I also put a new bed in. Is it possible he could be possessive over the bed? If so, should I take it out?

No. Leave the bed.

I think it's just a phase. I have 2 out of 11 this year that did that exact same thing.
