What does this sound mean? I've never heard her do it before. She was extra frisky tonight, playing and such- then she would pause, and make this sound like our teeth do when freezing? Just curious, did I make her mad?

Teeth chattering usually a warning. I have seen this when I have had wilds recuperating and they would chatter at me when I was invading their space (changing out food dishes for example, or cleaning the cage and especially removing their stash from a cubby). I have seen wilds outside chattering at another squirrel, clearly a sign of aggression.

If she has a stash could you have been getting close to it? If she does have a stash, you'll want to clean it out frequently since she'll get aggressive protecting it. :thumbsup

Ok, makes sense. She was having a small desert with us before her bedtime ( couple nibbles of pecans) Normally she gobbles and goes , but tonight she was playing and carrying them in her mouth; and trying to hide them . I guess she was warning me not to mess with her treasure ! Just never heard that, was like a mouth seizure thing

If squirrel is chattering ... you better start scattering! http://i483.photobucket.com/albums/rr196/hypatia320/GIFs/Smileys/run.gif (http://s483.photobucket.com/user/hypatia320/media/GIFs/Smileys/run.gif.html)

Mine do the teeth-chattering thing at bedtime if I accidentally wake them up. They hardly ever do it when they have a treat. Whenever they have a nut or a squirrel block, if they are out of their cage, instead of running off to hide it from me and each other they'll often come to me and climb up to sit on my arm and eat it or hide it in my sleeve or pocket. Lol.

When they're about to go to bed to tell me to leave them be they'll first start out with little growls to let me know they want to be left alone and if I'm still nearby, perhaps changing out their dishes or sweeping the floor under their cage, they'll pop their little heads out of their hanging pouch bed and teeth-chatter at me as the final warning that if I were to stick my finger into the cage right then I'd pull it back out bloody. Thankfully though I've come to recognize these signs and read their moods before any violence occurs so I've only ever experienced light 'play-biting' and scratching both accidental and 'go away!' versions.
