I believe I have a male 31/2 week old grey squirrel. I found him a week ago and have been feeding him puppy formula alternating pedialyte when he rejects the formula or doesn't produce a bowel movement. About how much should he weigh and how many bowel movements should he have a day?

Thank you.

:Welcome to TheSquirrelBoard

Here is a link that will give you the basics of baby squirrel care. It has several pages so use the NEXT button at the top.

Babies don't always have a bowel movement with every feeding, especially to start out. It varies from baby to baby. Of course, you should be seeing poop and pee on a regular basis.

Baby weights vary depending on what part of the country you're in. Squirrels in the north are much larger than our babies in the south. A full grow adult squirrel in FL is about a pound or around 450g. Young babies (before the eyes open) would be less than a 100g. Their eyes open at 5 weeks. Are you weighing your baby? The weight is important to determine the amount of formula. We feed 5-7% of the body weight. (Example: a 100g baby would receive 5-7ml of formula per feeding.

If you think your baby is dehydrated you could give extra hydration between feedings. Don't continue the Pedialyte beyond a day or two. You can give water sweetened with sugar or apple juice.

Again welcome! :thumbsup
