Hey Guys:
This past week I got a baby in who died less than an hour after being put into my hands. Finders had baby for 3 days and searched the internet for feeding instructions. She found KMR recommendations and thats what she bought and fed. Granted there are way more sites saying NO KMR, use Esbilac, but she seemed to find the sites with KMR. I thought I'd try and figure out which sites have this and maybe make a kind suggestion to fix it.
Looks like this person has had rehabbers contact him and he is still ignoring the feeding advice. Does anyone know who this is??

If you find any other sites with the wrong info and don't want to get involved, please at least post them here so I can contact as many as possible. I really think this is a life/death situation and I'd like to make changes if possible.
Thanks

My hats off to you for trying to take this on. :grouphug
Even if you only manage to change a few at least that's something. Unfortunately I think your going to be beating your head on the wall with this one. There is so much misinformation and outdated information on the net along with those that think their way is the right way and won't budge on their opinions regardless of how many animals are lost. Shoot, you can still find where even some vets will recommend KMR. :shakehead

KMR in and of itself should not kill an otherwise healthy baby (not the right choice for feeding, but it should not kill it, esp. in three days. I would think more likely how they fed it, or possible injuries they were not aware off.) Not to say the bad info should not try to be changed, but I do not believe KMR would kill a baby squirrel, esp. being on it only 3 days.

No it didn't I just didn't feel like typing the whole story out again, since I've got it all up on FB. Rehabbers not answering the phone killed this little one, but my concern is more about getting rid of the bad KMR advice. If you know of any other sites let me know. I'm on a mission :D :D

I know Step I know, but I'm Irish, a Taurus and usually I seem to enjoy banging my head ;)
The link I posted IS from a vet so I totally know it is more than just weekend warriors giving bad advice. I'll try and will keep it up til I get frustrated beyond pale.

So here is the response from the Dr. Hines.
Step - you are right, what a douche.
Dear Kim,
God did not intend for all baby squirrels to survive. They die for a
variety of reasons other than diet formula.
I have been raising them - generally successfully - for over 50 years.
I agree that one does get set in ones ways. I agree that the folks at Fox Valley
have better quality control than those at PetAg. But Pet Ag is what
my readers generally have available. I do not write my articles for
folks like you.
Best wishes with the critters,
But I wont answer any more emails you send me because I have other
things I must attend to. Hope you understand.

Obviously his initials stand for Royal Sh*t Head......
I went nine yards years ago with the guy who says he's a nurse, and that scalded milk is the BEST THING for baby squirrels....he mocked and derided me on his website but never published my responses. Douchebags breed and reproduce freely on the internet and particularly within the unlicensed squirrel "rescuer" community.
Note: And oh, yeah let's blame God for the deaths of your babies than your own incompetence. Good one, DB.
Note 2: Irish AND a Taurus? omg...it all makes sense now LOL. You will not be diverted from your chosen path, and neither will Milo's Mom -- she's German and a Taurus :rofl4. I'm Italian and Gemini: I explode, curse, and plan your slow and torturous death.......then I move on and go make something to eat.

Earthlink, my ISP, gives me five anonymous emails that cannot be traced back to me. :grin2

Kim, ( Etc )
I am German Scotch Irish and Native and a Pisces . I dunno what the later means.. BUT..
Its interesting the name he uses.. Second Chance. LOL..
Anyhow.. I have been trying to get My stubborn Second Chance-er to change her book.
She advocates Cow Milk and egg yolk. She says She will change it if I can provide scientific evidence her experience is wrong.
I would be happy to also send an email this guys way. When I found my squirrel his arrogance led me to keep searching.. and I found another site.. and then found yall.
And the phone thing ! I know ! I am hearing from all kinds of people that the main group here is not answering phones again . Animals die from stuff like that.

Ahhhh so thats how ya'll do it. Plan, make a plan, so not in my vocabulary, it hits my brain and my body is immediately in action. Usually, AFTER its all over and the dust is still blowing, I ponder.... Hmmmmm maybe that wasn't such a good idea ;) 40ish something and still haven't changed so I'm gonna say this is me.
