View Full Version : My squirrel is becoming restless because of the picky squirrel routine.

As we speak my squirrel is climbing all over me flicking her tail and making noises. She's going through every part of my room and her cage to find any hidden snacks I might have or any food I store for her. She is fine in her cage any other time except for when I start trying to get her to eat her rodent block. (Picky HHB is on the way and should be here tomorrow hopefully that works but if not...) she will chew on her cage and keep running around making noises and she has been out for 4 hours now. I'm almost 100% positive it is because I'm not feeding her any of her treats. When I put a rodent block in her bowl she literally throws the block and then the bowl. What do I do if the HHB doesn't work either and she still acts this way?

Also, I forgot to mention her last owners ONLY fed her seeds and nuts. I've only had her since Friday and her poop is green, I'm assuming because I gave her asparagus and grass and etc for her lunch and afternoon snack and she's never had greens before, that and the only pieces she likes in her rodent block are the green and blue colored bits. :/

She will be mad :madd for a while, cut off from her junk food (seeds and nuts). But know she will not let herself starve to death, but she WILL test your resolve and refuse to eat, holding out for junk food. Even George H.W. Bush would eat his broccoli before allowing himself to starve!

(Edit This former president is famously known for not liking broccoli in case anyone was unfamiliar with the reference.)

The only thing I'm afraid of is the cage biting, I know she probably does want out but not as bad as she's wanting her treats. Should I be worried about the excessive cage biting?

Do you have safe tree branches in her cage? Stuffies to play with? try to keep her "occupied" inside the cage with other things to chew on and play with and that will help reduce the cage chewing.

Yes we just a couple days ago gave her a big limb that she loves, when I kept putting her in shed chew on it and the cage angrily but the tactic worked a whole lot faster than I thought it would! :bliss
She's already eating her rodent block!
