Coat changes already??

Is it odd that my boy, about 2 is already getting what looks like a winter coat? It's super hot here but in almost the last 3 days he looks like he did in the winter, while his tail is shedding (uniformly, not spotty at all), out in a *major* way... is this normal this early in the summer? (His diet is good, Henry's and veg)...
