I need help asap! this morning when I was feeding one of my babies she sucked too hard on the syringe as I pressed it and she got to much. I immediately held her upside down and got everything out of her nose and she seemed fine after I cleaned her and had her do her business. I came home at lunch and she was not moving much and clicking. I have gave her some pedialyte and put her in the shower with me so it was warm and steamy for her. but it is now 9:52pm and she is still clicking and not moving much. I don't know what else to do tonight.
She is 5-6 weeks old. She is an eastern gray squirrel. She weighs between 88-90 grams.
I am located in Pensacola florida. I have been trying to find someone around that has baytril or cipro with no luck. I do have some cephalexin 500mg powdered pills from my personal AB. can I use this? please someone chime in I am nervous and don't want to lose her.

The Cephalexin is not a good choice for respiratory issues. Do you have ANY other antibiotics? All you need is one pill. It's after midnight now. First thing in the morning I would keep trying to find a pill. Just so you know it is legal the have a pet squirrel in FL. Some vets will actually treat a squirrel. (Most won't because they just won't deal with 'wildlife'.) Do you have a vet you could call. Vets that treat 'pocket pets' like hamsters, rats or guinea pigs might help.
P.S. While it is legal to have a 'pet squirrel' in FL, it is NOT legal to rehab (raise and release) a squirrel without a Wildlife Rehabbers License with the state. I know... It's crazy right! I mention this in case a vet asks what you plan to so with the squirrel.
Remember: Pet... legal. Rehab and release ... Illegal without a license.

ok, I am not sure if I gave her the right dosage, but for her weight I gave her .040 dosage for her first initial dosage and gonna give her .020 on her next dosage in 12 hrs. does that seem about right? I had to take a chance and based it off a ve recommendation. Hopefully someone can chime in and let me know if it should be different.

Total daily dose: 0.04
Split dose: 0.02

Yes that was a typo I had, I gave her the initial first time dose of .004 and will continue with .002 every 12 hrs. does that sound right. when I talked to a vet last night she said to take the 22.7mg pill, crush it up and mix it in 3cc water for the solution. You guys are the experts at this, I just want to make sure that sounds about right. I checked on my little girl this morning and she seems the same, how fast does the baytril start working? I was able to feed her this morning. she took 3cc's this morning, not like normal, I had to go very slow with her but she did eat.

Anyone please, I desperately need some answers on the dosage to make sure I am doing it right, mixed it right and time frame on the baytril. I don't want to lose my little baby girl.

Okay, baby is 97 grams.
Dosing at strength of 22.7, you would add 1cc of water to tablet
For the FIRST dose you would give 0.04
For the SECOND and following doses you would give 0.02
If you have another tablet, throw away the first one and start over.
Do you have another tablet or not?

no I don't have another tablet, that was the only one I could get. so the amount I gave her was correct just diluted it to much, should I give her a little more to compensate?

If you do not have another tablet and need to use what you already mixed up...
Each dose would be 0.06.
Meaning the total daily dose would be 0.12 since the 22.7mg tablet was diluted to 7.5mg.
If you do not understand what I'm saying please ASK before proceeding.

yes I do understand thank you :) so far at midnight I gave her .004 and I believe I was able to get that into her. this morning I have her another .002 at 8am feeding.

Are you sure you mean .004? That is a microscopic amount.
Using the image of the syringe that Stepnstone posted you count up 6 lines to get to 0.06.
You need to make sure you know what you gave her so I am able to better advise.

yes I have a 1cc syringe that has the line markings on it, I counted up to the 4th small line. that is the amount I gave her, then this morning I went to the 2nd small line. my syringe is marked every .10 up to 1.0 with the increments inbetween.

Okay, what you have is a 1cc syringe. The amount you gave her at midnight was 0.04 and this morning at 8am you gave her 0.02.
Right now, give her 0.06 and then tonight at 8pm give her another 0.06. I'm hoping that this extra dose will act as a loading dose and get her on the right track.
Tomorrow, you will give her 2 doses of 0.06...one at 8am and one at 8pm.
Got it?

Hey I just wanted to give a quick update on my little girl. At 8pm I gave her the .06ml of the baytril. I have been giving her pedialyte throughout the day to keep her hydrated. She has been taking about 3ccs of pedialyte each time. The clicking is still there. she is still weak but she is urinating and deficating after each feeding. How fast does the baytril treatment start working?

Usually after a day or so, in my experience. You are feeding her formula too, right? Be careful with the Pedialyte...there is a such thing as too much. Not sure of the back story or how many days you've had her...so just mentioning it to be safe.
Edit: Only 3cc's? How often/how many hours between feedings? At 97 grams a 5% feeding would be 4.5cc at least.

She was only taking 3ccs today, she had normally been eating 4.5-5ccs of formula. I did give her about 4ccs of formula today at her 12pm feeding and will be giving her more tonight. I've just been fixing her some pedialyte in between feedings to keep her hydrated. Thank you all for the help i really do appreciate it. I had talked to vets today trying to get one more baytril tablet with no luck. I'm not to sure i will have enough for the 7-10 day regimen. Is there any rehabbers around i can purchase one from?

The back story on her... i got her and her 2 brothers as pinkies after a storm we had. Mother was no where to be found so i took them in. I estimated them to be about a week old. We have had them for 5 weeks and a couple days. Very energetic, been following the rehabilitators guide on squirrel tales.org to the letter. They have been perfect until i screwed up ans aspirated her.

A little update, this morning i gave her the baytril. And then i proceeded to feed her. She did better this morning. She actually was making her normal squirrel sounds. And she seemed like she wanted food. She ate 4ccs this morning of formula. She is still clicking but seemed a little more mobile then she has been. Keeping my fingers crossed

nightly update: she took 4.5cc formula tonight, and most of her feedings today she took about 4ccs. clicking is still there. she is still urinating and deficating. ( a little runny ) she was taking food better. she was looking for the syringe again and trying to hold on to it so I am happy about that. I just will be so happy once the clicking stops and she starts moving around again.

Thank you all for the help and encouragement! This morning update. I went in by her cage and this is the first time she was awake and walking around. She actually greeted me at the cage door. I gave her the baytril, she also took 4.5ccs formula. She continued to move around a bit and explore. I did have a little concern, she coughed "ack" twice before i put her back in her cage. I held her upside down for a little while and rubbed her beck from the tail to the neck and tried to "burp" her to see if anything was stuck. I put her back in the cage and she walked around some more then went to her area to lay down. She coughed one more time but that was it. She hasn't coughed in the past half hr. But i am keeping an eye on her. Any ideas what might have caused that? And the clicking is still there although it seems a little more sporadic then constant like it has been.

My little baby girl passed away this morning. I checked on her at midnight and she seemed fine, walking around, ate formula, clicking was getting less and less. I came in the morning for her feeding and she had passed. I thank you for all the help and I wont be a stranger because I have 2 healthy boys left. This is just very hard, I had hopes she was going to make it.
