Snicker is not eating her blocks well: I am trying the tough love suggestions others gave me on previous thread, and the tips from the sticky article about picky eaters. Just wondering could it be her teeth and not just spoiled? Here are some pics:The last two pictures are her resting face. 261253261254261255261256261257

Can you tell if her bottom teeth are causing abrasions on the roof of her mouth?

The top teeth look fine. The bottom teeth might be a wee bit long. Does she have anything to chew on (branches, seashells, bones etc)?

As far as I can tell there are no wounds to her upper palate . She has had acces to antlers ( and attached skull - gross) and tree limbs since she was a baby eating solids. When do you know when to have them trimmed, if ever? Is it normal then for the upper teeth to override the bottom, kind of like a bird's beak ?

They can move their teeth around like we move chopsticks so it is not unusual to see the top teeth overlaying the bottom teeth. The bottom teeth look a little long so it probably makes that even more convenient for Snicker. I would not trim yet, keep an eye and hope fly she will wear them down a bit more.

An excellent way to get them to trim their own is to give them either a hickory nut or a black walnut to crack. They are literally rock hard and the shells are so thick they can take hours of chewing to get into. And they will happily do the chewing, because they are VERY motivated to get inside.

It is hard to find them this time of year - I was just online at nuts.com and they have black walnuts in the shell in stock. :thumbsup

Came home to a hungry, irritable Snickers this afternoon; but, I was relieved her teeth don't seem to be major problem- thanks for looking at the pictures! Of the two blocks from this morning, one was mostly eaten, the other submerged in water dish. I got two fresh; smeared one with avocado, other with organic peanut butter. She ate some ( but not all ) of both , so I finally felt like the imp deserved some sort of reward; gave her some greens, a grape, and pecan. My father in law has Hickory trees so he brought us one he picked; looks like a small, green tennis ball- guess not ripe? I gave it to her anyway, and she immediately started jack hammering it with her teeth- hope it's ok if not ripe, guess at least she's working her teeth.

That's awesome about the blocks. as long as she's getting some in her tummy. heading in the right direction. If I had a Hickory tree I'd feed my squirrels all parts raw , ripe ,branches , the whole enchilada! variety is a good thing.

If I knew where you lived, at a certain time of year you could have all the black walnuts you want. I live in south Alabama and have 2 really big trees in my front yard. Put it this way if I go over the area with the lawn mower it sounds like really loud popcorn going off or an automatic gun. I can't cut within 20 feet or so from the tree. Can keep you updated for when they drop off the tree.
