Need advice about caring for small puncture wounds on outside of hip region & also wondered if i could use tea tree oil for cleaning & maintenance care. Thank you in advance

No NO No!!! No tea tree oil!!! Not ever!!! It is poison for squirrels!!!

We do not know a safe dilution for them for the tea tree oil, so avoid that.

You can use betadyne that has been diluted with sterile water until it is the color of tea. I would pull it up in a syringe, put the tip of the syringe in the wound, and force the liquid in and out to flush.

What made the puncture wounds? If this was a cat, you need to start the little one on antibiotics NOW.

Puncture wounds frequently become abscessed because they are so difficult to clean initially and keep clean after.

I sent an email saying not to use the oil and asking if it was an animal that caused the puncture. Also said to please come back to the board.

Thank you & i will not use tea tree oil & it was my dad & deceased mom's 15 yr old dadhchund. Bless his heart i think it scared him more than anything but there was no major bleeding & the wound looks more like a scratch but i have xsecured his space better until dad comes back & takes her home. Thank you for your help!
