I have a 3 week old and he seems to not be able to poop. He has not for the past 2 feedings. I have stimulating him with no luck. I am starting to get a little worried. Any suggestions.

How long have you had him? It can take a while for them to start pooping if they come in compromised - their little bodies are empty of food, and the formula we feed doesn't have that much in it for solids, so while you will see pee right away, poop cna take a while.

Is he bloating? Is he digesting his food? You can tell - in fact before they get all of their fur you can actually see the milk line in their tummies. If he isn't bloated and his food is being digested properly, it is just a matter of time.

LOTS of hydration!!!!! I've had little guys like yours. The extra hydration helps a lot.

I've had him almost a week. He was pooping till early this morning. He is a little swollen there at his butt but its like he can't get it out.

I'm new here and not an expert, but I found this online, https://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20070911123228AAOabGU

Thanks. I tried the pedilyte after I started this thread. He took about 1/2 cc that was about 10 this morning. Went to feed him at 1 and he has past some. The formula I fixed was really deluged down. Like 1/4 tsp to 1 1/2 tsp water. Will keep a check on him.

If he's really bound up a little prune juice should get things going but you don't want to give the little guy diarrhea. If he's pooped some, I'd just keep up the fluids and hopefully nature will kick in.

Hydration is definitely the way to go. Use sugar water or honey and water without the salt at this point. Hope that little one feels better soon...:Love_Icon

So far so good. About one ceding a day I just give all three a little sugar water. Giving their system adjusted to the formula. Still making up the formula kind of weak. But they are starting to gain weight.

What formula do you have them on? Are you weighing them everyday and calculating how much formula based on 5% of their body wt?
We love pictures and would love to see your babies. Thanks for helping them!

I had started them out on some kitten formula that I had. Before I found this site and read about the Esbilac. I got them on Sunday. Every place that carries that formula was closed and also had to wait till the following Friday before I could get any of the other. Since I've had them on the Esbilac they have been doing good. Gaining weight, about a gram or 2 a day. All 3 are peeing and pooping good now with no problems so far. These were taken 4 days ago.
