Yesterday there was a big storm where I live. A squirrel nest fell out of a tree and one squirrel was injured he was rejected by his mom. She took all the other babies to a new nest but him. I brought him inside and put him in a box with a heat lamp. Since I heard the nest fall and was outside right away the squirrel was not dehydrated and I did not need to use anything to re hydrate him. since I don't have access to the puppy pouder stuff you are supposed to feed them I used goat milk since that was available at the time and was something that could be used. Anyway I've had him for maybe 30 hours now and he has made huge improvements but during his most resent feeding I was going to put a drop of milk on his lip and he moved and I put it on his nose. I grabbed a paper towel and wiped it off as soon as I could. I then looked to see what I should do and didn't see much other than check for clicking. When I cam back and put him near my ear he seemed like he was clicking. Would he start clicking this fast after it got in his nose? I was planning to take him to a rehabilitation place tomorrow when I get back from my cabin will that be to long if he did get some milk in his lungs? What should I do? Also I think he is between 2 and 3 weeks old.

Also the clicking is very faint and doesn't seem to be constant he will click for a little bit then I won't hear it anymore and then I will hear it again

Don't worry -- it is highly unlikely that he got anything in his lungs just from you tapping his nose with the syringe. Glad you found a place to take him. Please make sure that they do actually rehab baby squirrels and not just feed them to their raptors. I know, sounds harsh and blunt but many of these "wildlife centers" actually do that.

Bless you for rescuing him!

Nancy, read my post above. I asked him to make sure they would not be raptor food at that nature center, that's all.

We have a BIG local rehab facility here that rehabs all kinds of animals. If you call them and tell them you have a baby squirrel, they will tell you to bring it in. What they don't tell you UNLESS YOU ASK is that they will not let them live unless they are a NATIVE species.

Like IR said, I know the facility here WILL feed squirrels to their raptors. It's awful! I know raptors have to eat, but they need to be a bit more forthcoming when the caller tells them they have a baby squirrel.
