Sammy is a 3 month (Aproxately) red squirrel. I was at the pet store today and came across a couple pet treats that looked fun. I know that as a rule store bought pet treats are bad but these looked so fun! Especially the log one.... My question is... Are the ok as a VERY rare and occasional treat (NOT daily...) Or should I return?

I liked the log because it was a snack but also a nawing toy. I think he would enjoy them but I don't want to hurt him!

These are not things that I would suggest at all. I do give OCCASIONAL treats such as these. However, it is a much better idea for a growing squirrel to keep it to items on the healthy diet menu. Things like healthy fruits, green pinecones and live branches (not from the ground) from local trees are a far better choice.

A few pumpkin seeds or the like on an occasional basis are okay as long as you are SURE he is eating his blocks and healthy veggies.

Thank you!! I will return them....

The link you shared... Are they a suggestion as an occasional treat or possibly daily? I keep looking for something fun to spoil my Sammy with on occasion when I'm at the pet store but everything looks so bad for him! :(

Give her an apple stick or maple spinners as treats. The other stuff is just crap that won't help her to grow big and strong. If you can find green pinecones, you will be her hero. They are not open yet and so they still have the seeds in them. Once they are brown and open, the seeds that they really love are gone.
That bird food is crap too, but it is okay occasionally. While they are growing, give them the good stuff!:Love_Icon

Thanks!!!

I will keep an eye out for those green cones!! Any special time of year? Our Sammy is a boy.... We thought he was a she when we named him... But figured Sammy was a good gender neutral name. He doesn't seem like a Sammy to me though..... Just can't find a name that fits! So his "pet" name is Nutkin ;)
