Iv'e been researching ,and Sometimes I Soak almonds and other nuts in water or Almond milk for 30 hours in the fridge. It's just for treats. Would like to know what some of you think about it. Here's just one link about the "Anti Nutrient". http://authoritynutrition.com/phytic-acid-101/

This is really interesting. I need to do some more reading about this. You know, the day I looked down at that dehydrated little creature lying in the grass covered with ants, I would have never thought that he would turn me into a nutritional researcher!

There is a whole way of coking for humans to avoid photic acid.
( nurnishing traditions) I think it's a real thing. But may be more of a problem for humans than rodents. That said very good question. Interesting to see what CM finds.

I just kinda stumbled on it when started searching "Soaking Almonds" I was just curious if my almond milk was getting through to the middle of the almond after it plumped up. Didn't know what phytic acid was until then. Some folks swear by it. I'm sure the moister is good for us and squirrels. I heard a nutritionist say that if you want to live longer either boil or steam your food. Used to We'd have to go to the library to find out all this. Now we just click that mouse and away we go.

Very interesting! How long do almonds remain good after soaking? Do they have to be eaten that day?

I store them in a mini Tupperware container in the freezer. Not sure how long they would last just in the fridge. I always drain them before Putting them in the freezer after the soaking. I usually run out in a month and have to start all over again. Seems on warm days they like the coolness of them and chow down on them Immediately..

The reason my interest was peaked is because I saw this post from someone who seemed credible about the subject ,
"It's not that unsoaked almonds contain less nutrients, but rather, that the phytic acid levels in many nuts inhibit the absorption of nutrients from other foods such as calcium, magnesium, iron and zinc. Soaking decreases the phytic acid content, preventing poor mineral absorption."

Thanks, I am going to give this a try! I'm sure more moister content can't hurt. Right? :thinking
