We have a young squirrel we are used to seeing in our yard who showed up today with a small, red looking injury to his "ankle" and holding his foot up, unable to walk on it at all. Any suggestions?

If you can post a picture that would be helpful.
Squirrels are very resilient, and have remarkable healing powers.
Do you see any scraps, bumps, blood?

I tried to get a pic of the injury this afternoon but I guess the good news is the squirrel seems to be moving around too quickly for me to get a good picture of the injury. I didn't see any blood yesterday or today. It seems less red today from what I can see but he still won't put it down.
I attached the best pic I could to show how he's limping around. This is my first post so thanks for your help:-)

About 90% of the time, they will heal on their own. Keep an eye on her and hopefully she will start to use the leg more over the next couple days. If you see signs of infection (redness, swelling, loss of hair, discharge) then some intervention might be needed. I have had many wilds show up limping/holding paw in air, most seem better within 1-2 weeks.

Good news! I finally got a really good look at the little guy and he is back on all fours. I thought it was him yesterday but because I wasn't 100% sure so I didn't want to post until I was sure. Thank you for your kind advice
