My big boy got a scratch on his eye and it has become infected. What types of antibiotics/dosage do I need to get for him? It's swollen and has pus now :/

Where on his eye is the scratch? You can rinse it with a warm cloth or even saline solution to begin with.

It's like in the middle of his lens. With him it's so hard to tell if he is getting really sick or has hurt feelings. I'm scared it's getting really infected because he doesn't want to get out or eat but he also does that if he gets his feelings hurt. He's sensitive lol

I am not sure about oral antibiotics for eyes. Is there any chance to have a vet see him? What antibiotics do you have on hand and maybe we can figure out which would be best? I am going to be off for tonight, but others will be here so if you can post the answer to my questions they may be able to help.

I don't have a vet in the area that I could take him to but I know my vet in town would give me whatever I needed to bring home to him. I don't have any meds on hand. He's never been sick or injured and he's 3

I am sure if you tell the vet its an eye infection he will get you antibiotic ointment for eyes. I cannot think of the name...:shakehead
is he otherwise healthy and whole? SMZ is a good broad spectrum antibiotic, but for the eye i think you need ointment as well. I would bet it hurts too ...:Love_Icon
what does he eat every day?

Terramycin is a very good antibiotic eye ointment; I use it on my cats. Maybe you know someone who would have it around for a cat or dog?

Over the years two of my mice were prescribed antibiotic eye drops to treat infection. The first time Ofloxacin was used and the second time Tobramycin was used. I agree with SammysMom's idea to use a saline rinse in the affected eye. This will help remove any debris as well as to soothe it. RatGuide although obviously a rat site has a section on eyes that might be of further use:
