Hey guys my fiance saw a cat attacking what he thought was a squirrel...he called me i told him to get the cat off and ran outside.... Cat was on the animal and it was actually a chipmunk... I'm sure it's in shock...I think it is young was super easy to catch and was not fighting the cat trying to get away....I have it now in a cage in a dark quiet room.....any suggestions or should I release after the shock is over....I raised squirrels never a chipmunk....thanks for your help

Will you be able to treat it with an antibiotics? Cat bites lead to deadly infections.

Not sure if it's saliva on his fur or if the cat actually broke skin....but what kind of antibiotics will be safe

Baytril, Clavamox or clindamycin are best for cat bites. Always assume there is a puncture when it's a cat, even if you don't see one.
If you need help dosing any of those, just let me know the chippie's weight.
Chippies are squirrels, so pretty similar, but they are FAST. Make sure he can't get out of his container and into your house.....they have been known to get 'lost' and live in people's homes or rehab facilities for months....

He wasn't fast he hopped away when I got the cat off but I was able to keep up with him and easily catch....you think he's young or just in shock

Poor lil chippie. He looks so scared. Probably shocky from the attack, so Dark Warm & Quiet is best.
If you can only get Cipro instead of Baytril we can figure out the dose for that, too....but Baytril injectable liquid 22.7 strength is the easiest to dose and most effective.

Keep him in that quiet and darkish room. Makes sure he is warm and add an old test shirt or a fleece so he can hide under it and feel safe.
