Hi guys! I'm back. I have a question.... Will a fox mate with a grey? Also, these guys have been together all 8 months of their lives, should they just now be becoming aggressive toward the other? The female has begun ( only two days now) being ugly to the male and chasing him when they are out of cage for playtime. He clearly wants no part of it. He is really laid back and prefers to run a little circuit when he is out and nibble on things here and there when playing. She is more of a neurotic, I'm gonna get the top off of your soda bottle if it kills me you and him kinda squirrel. I do have a large cage that I could partition and separate them but I really don't want to. They have slept in the same hammock since they were 5 weeks old. I put a second hammock in adjacent to the first for a little variety, and last night for the first time ever they each slept alone! I couldn't believe it but I think he had enough of her. Oh then I found a little piece of apple in his. I am wondering if this isn't food related. In the very early morning they each get their HHBs. Then around 9 am they get a communal bowl of "salad". This stays in the cage all day until evening when we go in to clean the cage of all food and have play time for 1 to 3 hours. Should I put two salads on different levels of the cage? Also they get their nuts as a treat when it's time to go back in the cage for bed, but we make sure that she stays out and he is inside the cage when they get them. I have seen her take his before, and he will surrender it over to her rather than fight. She is a little witch! LOL. Any input would be greatly appreciated!
She is 1.06 lb
He is 2.20 lb

This is pretty typical behavior.
Greys are far more aggressive than foxers and will torment them and chase them out of territories in the wild. In my personal experience, grey females can be far more witchy than their brothers and will sometimes even prevent a sibling from getting to the food or water, or the nest box. In these cases it is necessary to separate for the health of the one who's being bullied.

They will not mate, no. BUT there could be a lot more aggression where the female's is coming from and eventually it will hurt your boy. It sounds as if both are wilding up in their own individual ways, and it's time to consider soft release for both of them.
