I saw this squirrel in my brothers neighborhood. Looking for somewhere to share it. What could cause it?

Did you only see this once? Is it possible that he was carrying something?
If not this squirrel needs help fast! :shakehead

I only saw it once. At first I thought it was carrying something too. I then saw the abcess and took it my phone to record

I find it hard to believe that an abscess would get that large without rupturing or killing the squirrel with sepsis. My guess would be that what you are seeing is a tumor. :shakehead

Very hard to see but that squirrel cannot survive with a tumor growing that large; it will either impair his ability to climb and escape predators, or constrict his windpipe. Is there any way you can try and trap him in a Hav-A-Heart trap? He needs treatment, or humane euthanization if untreatable. Poor little guy.....

I agree with Spanky....that looks like a momma carrying her babe....she even stops to adjust the baby :dono I sure hope that's what it is.....that's exactly what it looks like :thinking

I think your right, from the one's I've seen the way they ball that baby
up to carry them it does look like an enlarged part of them.
If it is an abscess or tumor that large they will likely see him/her again.
They wouldn't be traveling far in that condition.

Yes Step, and if you watch carefully...I even see a bit of the baby's tail....when she stops to adjust...it's on the opposite side...but it bounces up:thumbsup That's my story and I'm sticking to it :Love_Icon

I agree, that's a very cool video. What a mouthful for mom to carry!

:)Good Morning Ms. Kristi, it looked as though the Mother had the Baby's stomach/chest area gripped in her teeth. Our Lil' Annabelle has very good control of her 'jaw' muscles, She can clip herself to an earlobe without leaving an impression mark.:tilt

That looks like a baby to me. Having seen Bean do this, that is exactly what it looked like (to quote my hubby 'she looked like she was wearing a giant grey beard stuffed with a walnut in it'...lol)

I have seen babies moved by their mommas a few times and that is what this looks like to me... the larger the babies the more they have to stop and make adjustments to their "hold".
