View Full Version : Odd Behavior?

My little Trudie is approximately 7-8 weeks old. After a few scares with dehydration, she has truly come out of her she'll! She's playful and rambunctious! I am curious about a recent behavior she has been exhibiting. She will randomly start doing forward rolls (literally) in her cage and then lay on her back and curl her bottom up and bite on her tail or leg and then start she'll start rolling around and "popping" up and down. Is this a playful, normal behavior? She'll "pop" on and off the sides of her cage also. I haven't seen any fleas and she's acting like herself!
Another question, she LOVES Henry's squirrel block. How much is too much? I've been trying to give her broccoli, cauliflower, and green beans but she won't touch them! I'm still feeding her the Fox Valley formula, but I'm still unsure of what I need to be feeding her and how much. Her droppings are now darker in color (no longer cream colored, but not black either). Is this ok? Do I need to have a water bottle in the cage now?
Thank you for your help!!

:wave123 SquirrelNewbie,
It sounds like Trudie is being a 'normal' baby squirrel. :grin2 Baby squirrels are very 'kitten' like in that they do like to play. Give her a small stuffed animal to play with (the soft type without button eyes). They love to roll and play with stuffies.
At 7-8 weeks old she should only be getting 1 Henry's block per day. I would cut it in half and give her 1/2 at a time so that she doesn't waste it. At that age they will crumble them and waste a lot. You can also buy a rodent block like Mazuri or Harland Teklad. They can have these free choice. I actually have 2 babies that are eating the Mazuri blocks in addition to the HHB's. I never had a squirrel eat them before now. :tilt
You can start introducing veggies on the Healthy Diet chart. They have preferences just like we do. Their preferences change a lot also. Today they like it ... tomorrow they hate it. Try some kale, sugar snap peas, etc.
Trudie probably won't use the water bottle yet but you can go ahead and put it in there so she can start exploring it. :thumbsup

Are salt wheels or cuttlebone ok for chewing purposes? Or is still too early for her?
This is Trudie... Do I have her age about right? Thank you for all of your help!

I just turned your photo.
She is TOO CUTE!
No salt wheel, and yet the cuttle bone would be perfect!
Does she eat block?
edit: I just read she loves her HHB's! :dance

She loves the squirrel block but I'm now realizing I'm giving her too much! I will be purchasing rodent block ASAP!

I'm glad she is still taking formula.
It's their best insurance against MBD!

She's a beautiful little one. In some squirrels that behaviour never stops. Check out Sammy... extra springs in those paws. :dance
