Throwing up for a squirrel is not good, was there something different with the formula??

No, nothing different, now that she is a little older she does drink faster. She is very tired and sluggish but moving. The throw up was chunky barely wet powder.

My wife is in the room with her now. She seems to be moving a bit more. I think she ate WAY TOO FAST and a little too late.

She always gets in her bed to sleep but tonight, after eating, she laid under her shelf.

Right now,,,,,,,,,,,she has her normal fluffed up tail and is more active. I am thinking it was upset stomach. From sucking down the thick made formula too fast.

BUT after reading a few horror stories of others babies dying after switching to the Esbilac Puppy Formula, I think we will stick with the goats milk, vanilla yogurt, and whipping cream like we did with Nork.

My wife will update and check for responses tomorrow, or if baby Bella starts to decline tonight.

I think we jumped the gun and freaked out over a simple tummy ache.

If the formula was mixed properly, how could she she throw up "barely wet powder"??
This just don't make any sense to me or I'm missing something?
In the meantime... I would offer her hydration and plenty of it.

Reading other post from other people with the same exact issue their squirrels were also vomiting the pasty toothpaste looking stuff. She is 100% fine now, I think she ate to fast and had a upset stomach. I kept her up for a little while to make sure she was fine. She was running on me again like I was tree and grooming.:Love_Icon

You are mixing the formula and letting it sit for at least 4 hours (preferably overnight) before feeding it, correct? That can help to make it most digestible.

Vomiting is definitely not a good sign!

From the PetAg site (http://www.petag.com/consumer-resources/mixing-instructions/):

"How To Mix KMR and Esbilac to Ensure Freshness
New formula must be mixed with room temperature water. If water is too hot, new milk replacer formula will form clumps and not mix well. To get the enhanced nutrition provided in the new formula, the powders require slightly more mixing than in the past. They may exhibit a degree of settling and if left standing, will need to be stirred again before using.
If you should find small lumps in the Esbilac or KMR powders after it is reconstituted with water, pour it into a small strainer and use a spoon to press it through or mix it through the strainer."

(This contradicts what the site says on the Puppy Milk Replacer page, which says mix with warm water, but I don't know if that's just 'cuz it's old?)

Also see the guidelines for storage. Once the powder is opened, it should be refrigerated (up to 3 months) or frozen (up to 6). Does it smell rancid at all?

There is no mention in the mixing instructions of leaving it 4 hours to dissolve. Was that in the instructions of the old formulation, or is it just what is found to be beneficial?

1 part Esbilac powder to 2 parts VERY WARM water.

That's pretty much it. :thumbsup

Just a couple of observations.
How long has she been on Goat's Milk Formula?
This is only a TEMPORARY formula, and NOT to be used
to raise them on.
If she has been on GMF did you transition her to the Esbilac?
Some say they don't need to transition, but this may be a problem for
her if she wasn't.
Also, what many are using at this age is 50/50 Puppy Esbilac and FV 20/50.
However, I just learned that an experienced Connecticut rehabber is now using
only Puppy Esbilac. I'm sticking with the 50/50, but she must have her reasons.
Please don't put her back on only the GM formula.
As others have stated, mix up a batch ahead of time, and let it sit in the refrig.
minimum of 4 hours. Many make up the formula a day ahead, and let it
stay in the refrig until they use it the next day. ALWAYS make sure to shake it
well before using.

Did you get the puppy Esbilac with probitotics? Is the third ingredient Drey Whey Protein?
The stories you are referring to are from the OLD Puppy Esbilac, that's why we recommend
the Esbilac with probiotics or it's not labeled that way, the third ingredients should say
Dried Whey Protein.
So far only positive stories with the new puppy Esbilac

Goodmorning Nancy, yes I have her on the Esbilac with probitotics. She is doing a 100% this morning. I honestly think I over fed her and I feel bad. I might have overreacted but after the thing when Nork when he was a baby I tend to do this now. She has her regular poos never diarrhea like my husband read. Thank you for your advice and no I will not do the goats milk, my husband loves to read everything and freaked out with the stories. She has been on Esbilac for 2 1/2 weeks with no issues except last night.

I would rather you think you "over reacted" and come on for help.
You are a wonderful mom. You read and seek advice when not completely sure and
that's so refreshing! :hug
AND you take advice SO well too!

Glad the little one is better, now you can breathe! :hug:hug

I believe this is simply a "best practices" measure. Following these guidelines can help compensate for human errors... for example if the formula is shaken after first mixing letting it stand will allow the air bubbles to dissipate which can be problematic for the very little ones. If the formula is allow to sit a while and it still seems lumpy or gritty, that may indicate an issue with the batch of formula... or minimally should cause a raised eyebrow. In the past there have been changes in formulation that did not dissolve well and even batches that did not dissolve completely... which is indicative of a mixture a baby Is going to have a hard time digesting as well.
