Dragging the rear legs is generally evident of back and or spinal injury. Possibly broken legs. If you could lightly pinch the toes on each rear leg to check for reaction it would let us know if he feels any sensation and give a better idea on extent of injury. Whatever the case, it still would take experienced hands to treat a squirrel in this condition if it were possible.

I once had a squirrel like this crawl up to my patio. Somehow she knew to come here. My vet was gonna see her bright and early the following morning but the trauma was so bad she didn't make it over a few hours. I hope this squirrel makes it. And can someone please tell me why not to use hydrogen peroxide?

In open wounds hydrogen peroxide can destroy healthy tissue.

Thank you for the update and for helping this little one.
Even though he didn't make it, he knew someone cared enough
to find help for him.
I guess to some, driving that distance is nothing when trying to save a life.
You showed a lot of compassion driving 3 hours!
Thank you for that! :bowdown

this is the only thing I had at first to put him in and he was filthy I o it some tomatoes and a piece of asparagus and some oat cereal in their but he wouldn't eat. the first pic is when I first found him. then I put baby blankets in their. he just seemed fine and then he died. I wish I could have done something else I just can't stop thinking about this. I no he is in a better place now

This reminds me so much of when we found an injured wild last August. It is sad but you helped him cross the rainbow bridge with peace and dignity...You did all you could so be proud of that.
