I spoke to the Game Warden today and he felt like his only concern for me right now is not having a system in place to identify babies.
I have created a waiver for those turning in babies, getting all pertinent info but, assuming you get a litter of 4 babies, how do you record weights and keep everyone identified so you know who's who?
Do any of you have a form/record chart you would be willing to share as a template?

Edited to add: Has anyone tried WRMD.org?

FW, do you have the Wild Mammal Babies book? On page 32 is a nice 'Wildlife Admission Form'. If you don't have the book I would be happy to scan it and send it to you. :thumbsup

I do have the Wild Mammal Babies book... I will take a look at it as soon as I can get the snoozing cockatoo off my lap.

I have seen some of the intake pages... those are great.

But how do you keep your babies straight when it comes to keeping their individual records - like weight?

A dab of different finger nail polish works well, of course they end up looking like little monks where the hair falls out!

For pinkies it has been suggested that a livestock marker might work. Or food coloring. I have used nail polish on one foot in a variety of colors. Once they have fur you can nip the fur on tails in specific spots.

I rarely find that I have to mark babies, because I either find a way to differentiate them by size, by behavior, or of course by gender. Then, I name them. (By the Book Rehabbers collectively GASP! right here.... :rotfl) Once I name them I notice their personalities and there's no problem. On the odd chance that I have same-sex triplets or quads I might put a bit of lipstick on top of their heads or behind one ear.

I use small spiral notebooks as my logs, and simply divide the pages up according to how many babies I've got. I use obvious symbols like ++ for 'doing well' and :( for 'not so great'. I chart each feeding and note the amounts taken and whether #1 (pee) or #2(poop) was present. I add the weights in above the Baby's name at the top of the chart. It's all longhand and sloppy looking but I've got all the info I need right there. :tilt

Okay, thanks for the input everyone. I think I will get the hang of this.

I hate record keeping but I know it's important.

Oh live stock marker ! Good idea.
One of my trainers used sharpie markers.
I used nail polish last year at base of the tail.
I assign a color and a name ( I name mine too.. Everything needs a name)

Also use a spiral notebook. I fold the pages in sevens .. This has the morning weight, time and amount of feeds and if they peed and pood if young enough to be stimulated.

This was last year. I may switch to another daily form.
I was not able to distinquish with certainty who was from what litter. My permit holder at that time did not give me back stories or history on them. I only knew Sunny was huge and much older.

But i liked that i could jot notes like an M for mushy poop etc. I had a system. ( you will see a lot of M's cause they all got sick on me a few days after I got them) .

Also in the column with their weight I took the 5-7% based on their weight. And wrote the amount they took at each feed into the column with the time of the feed .

But Chrysto was the only boy.. Pepita was a female with no marking.. The others were blue, green, And purple
