View Full Version : My Exam and Inspection is Friday!! I'm so NERVOUS!!!

The Game Warden called this morning and would like to come out on Friday with the biologist, to give me my permit exam and inspection.
I am sooooo nervous... To add to my terror, Friday is my birthday... I REALLY don't want to fail on my birthday!
Any advice, suggestions, tips from those who have gone through this? I know it varies state to state but I will take any and all advice! :grin2

I don't know VT specifically, but you ARE going to hide your existing squirrels and any sign of them, aren't you?

I have squirrels? What squirrels? :grin3
My rehab space will actually be in an apartment above our detached garage. I just put the heater in there today to get it warmed up but it's a perfect space - linoleum floors, skylights, a big sliding glass door and a little kitchen.
I would rather keep my home to my home (with a few free ranging squirrels) and my rehab space separate.
On a side note, while I was sitting her typing this, Buddha came grunting over to me, jumped on my arm and started biting. I'm frustrated. I will write a different post on this when I get home from picking up my daughter in a few minutes.

Oh I'm so excited for you, just remember to BREATHE, lol, and I'm sure you'll do fine. I can't wait to hear about the whole deal, exam, inspection & all... I'm just starting my apprenticeship, but sooner or later I'm going to be going thru the same thing, just in a different state.
How amazing is it that you'll be starting (officially, that is!) such an exciting new endeavor on your birthday? It's like a second birth of sorts... I read on your profile how squirrels changed your life - boy oh boy can I relate:grin3
I'd go out on a limb here (haha a squirrel pun) and say you & I have alot in common... Aside from squirrels & the licensing process (which is already quite a bit) my family's also made up of husband & an 8yo-wanna-be-pre-teen daughter:poke and my future rehab space is in an apartment attached to the other side of our basement garage. The topper? My b'day is next week... the BIG ONE, or so everybody says, but as long as I don't magically transform into a decrepit old wretch it's all good:grin3

Less than three hours to go! :panic
I'm nervous but I guess I am as ready as I am going to get... at least for today.
I just keep thinking I don't have enough "stuff".

Don't worry about having enough stuff. I think inspectors everywhere want to see a clean, fairly organized facility with the proper caging for the species you are going to rehab, as detailed in the state rehabilitation manual or rule book you probably have. They also like to see rehab animals being placed away from household pets and living spaces (I know, that's a luxury many of us don't have!) but do your best. Good luck and keep us posted! Oh -- and my advice to anyone dealing with ANY state or government agent: Do Not Overcommunicate. Answer their questions but don't babble. Don't give them any reason to dig further or make trouble. :grin3

Oh that last one is a hard one! I talk too much! I need to bite my lip or something. :)
I think my space is ideal. No pets or people go up there on a regular basis so it's quiet. The floor makes it easy to clean and having a little kitchenette means not needing to share the fridge with critter food.
I need to sweep up in there. I am still moving cages up (I have two more big parrot cages that are going up into the space but they aren't clean yet) so I think steaming the floor would kind of be a waste of time. I am picking up the area for now. Ugh. Anxiety is going to kill me! :klunk

Well, I have no idea how I did.
I scored a perfect score on the exam... But he really didn't really look around and he didn't give me an OK.
He said I did OK but the decision wasn't his.
I am waiting for an email response from another rehabber. I have no idea what to think. :/

I spoke to another experienced VT rehabber who said:
"But I am very very optimistic. I would bet my month's salary that you are our next VT state licensed rehabber!!"
Boy I hope so.
I am ordering a pizza and heading out to grab a birthday cake.
She says I should start breathing again. :)
