We want to release our 4 1/2 month old flyers. Preferably when it gets warm for good here in St. Pete. The thing is, I don't know where to release them at. My yard is full of greys and I'm not sure if that will make a difference. I would gladly release them in my yard if the greys won't hurt them. We've never had flyers before these. I was hoping someone near me could help me in case I have to relocate them for soft/full release. We wanna be able to visit early in their release in the evening/night when they wake up. Ya know just so helicopter mom can check on them. I don't know what to do. Any advice guys?

Hi.. I'm a new flyer mama so I can't help answer.. but I posted a link to your question on the breed specific/flying squirrel forum. Hopefully someone can help soon.. please don't release until you get some advice :)

Magna here in the Jax area releases flyers. :) not sure if that would be too far.

Magna here near Pixiepoo and me has a very large colony of flyers, He is far from you though almost in Georgia. His facility is in a huge forested area. I am sure he has flyers out in a release cage now or at least ready to go outside in a release cage soon. Flyers are more difficult then greys to release.

I have had some tell me you can't release them near greys and some folks say I can release them in the same yard as greys. What's the general consensus?

They're active at different times of the day, so flyers do live with grays and foxers.
A soft release is preferred, and, as you know, early evening.
Search your area for suitable nesting trees for them.
If you have none, I would suggest using someone that does.
