Just got these two this afternoon, they havent taken anything since they were found this morning. They are grays, eyes open and very mobile, tails havent fluffed up yet. They do poop and pee on their own
What can we do to get them to take the bottle.
We are in Lakeland.

Spoke to Skinnywater and it sounds like he has a couple of 5 week old babies on his hands. One of them is missing the toes on one back foot. I have emailed Rhapsody and am hoping to hear back soon.

They are adorable. Remember the old cliche' -- the more you hydrate them, the more they want to drink. Dehydration = lack of appetite = more dehydration = death. Slurp it up, precious babies!

Once you have them hydrated, you can offer them formula (Esbilac with probiotics). Be sure that it is very warm and it will be more appealing to them. Be certain they are fully hydrated before giving formula though.
I haven't heard back from Rhapsody, but if we don't hear from her there is another person or two that we can try. Keep up the good work!:grouphug

LOOK at those sweeties! That little guy missing toes reminds me of "Poodle"-- one of my all time heartbreakers. His missing toes didn't stop him from going out and living a good life. Poodle came home when he got sick. He died in my arms. He knew where home was and when it was time he wanted to be home to leave this earth. I hope those darlings grow up to live as good a life as Poodle did.

Havent heard from c4s, they are taking the pedialyte, but wont have anything to do with the formula.
Anyone else in lakeland?

You can pick up some ensure (butter pecan) and dilute it with formula and extra water to get them going. Being older, it can take a bit to get them to take the formula, but doing this usually works. Very cute!! No pedialyte after 24 hours, if needed you can make homemade pedialyte, just leave the sugar out.

I remember how disappointed you were last year not to get baby squirrels. I also remember that all you got was birds.
WELL ... you got squirrels. :poke :jump:peace

God I love TSB!!! Thank you Skinnywater, Firerunner and everyone else who offered to help! I know that feeling of the numbers climbing, FR...:rofl4 With my "Oh what's one more..." attitude, last year was one that had me hopping. I went from not taking more than 4 or so to 18 at one point. You just never know what is in store for you...:shakehead

Yes no squirrels last year all birds LOL this year we are off to a good start!
So they are here and I fed them already and I also offered them a squirrel block. I think they are probably 6 maybe closer to 7 weeks. They are climbing standing and starting to sit. They ate about 3 CCs for me (they had 3 ccs at 4:20 or so also from Skinnywater) and then they both grabbed the squirrel block and nibbled on it.
Right now they are in their own cage for QT purposes. They look healthy eyes are clear both weigh 98 grams (little small)
Stumpy (ya I named one) has no toes on one back foot, looks like an old injury or maybe a deformity. Think this will hurt his chance of release??
My other four will be about 6 weeks on monday do you think I can put all 6 in a cage together? They are very close in age.
Ok am off
have a great one!

Soo sorry skinnywater, I was off line all day yesterday. I am glad firerunner has the babies. I had a cage cleaning, nest box cleaning and bottle cleaning day yesterday and did not check my PM.

firerunner, IMO ... I don't think missing toes on a back foot should made this guy a NR. Sometimes I think we're too quick to deem them NR. I believe he will adapt and figure out ways to do things a little differently. Others might have a different opinion but that's mine. :tilt
You have a perfect release site for him. He will probably stay near your yard so you can observe him. With your acreage and fenced wooded property, I believe he will do just fine. :thumbsup

Well Wren and Stumpy are settling in. They are eating 6 CC's every 4 hours and they are eating healthy blocks. We have a little issue with runny poop from Stumpy so I am watching that to ensure it clears up.
I am sure it is the change from momma food to our food.
Overall it is going well and I can see these guys climbing thru the forest in no time!!

Wren and Stumpy, we love it!
