MyLittleMiracle is having problems with Miracle. She called me in a panic.Diet sounds very good so I don't think it's MBD. Squirrel is about 1 yr old. She is getting a weight now.
Squeaks when touched, just laying there not moving, unable to thermo regulate. Started a few hours ago.
I instructed her to rub molasses on her gums, Miracle took hubby's finger and licked it all off. Miracle is currently on hubby's belly with heating pad on low. Julia mixed up some sugar water and is trying to get her to take it.
Julia is freaked big time. I told her fluids are number one priority right now and not to worry about food at this moment, but to also make sure to keep blood sugar levels up.

I told her she could offer formula and juicy fruits. I also said she could offer a TUMS or even smash it into water and offer the liquid (just cause TUMS makes the water taste better).

Julia said she does not think Miracle fell and the only odd thing she's eaten and it was a nibble was a dried up green bean that she managed to fetch from under the dishwasher.

We basically left it at FLUIDS, FLUIDS, FLUIDS, add some sugar here and there and then to get on TSB and post with all the details.

UPDATE: On phone with Julia again right this moment, Miracle is having a really bad time. They've gotten almost 12cc's of sgar water into Miracle.

Not lethargic but not far from.

HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Does her bladder feel full?

Julia said yes kind of. She is going to try to simulate her again.

They are getting a weight right now in grams.

They have 250mg of Cipro.

As of yesterday and this morning her pee looked normal but Julia did mention that she seems to have a more musky odor since yesterday.

When they tried to stimulate Julia said that Miracle started shaking/twitching. And she was doing the cheee cheee cheee

Anyone else thinking bladder infection? UTI?

Weight is 645 grams.

Miracle is eating little bits of food, so I ask Julia to dilute the sugar water a little bit but keep getting it into her. Just did not want to give her so much sugar it would cause runny poops.

My rule of thumb is that an adult squirrel doesn't suddenly crash like this unless there is actually something wrong, and the fact that specific symptoms aren't being observed doesn't change that. I have yet to see an animal injured by Baytril/Cipro. I would absolutely start meds.

That's what I'm thinking too! Thank you. Nancy's dosing instructions with charts and links have been PM'd for Cipro. Julia is on phone with Step right now, they are about an hour from each other.

The very instant I hear anything I will post.

Miracle seems to be doing MUCH better. She is up and moving around on her own. No pee yet but fresh poops are small and hard. I advised them to back off the sugar even a bit more but to continue to push fluids fluids fluids.

Julia is going to do a course of AB's; she agrees with Crit's statement too.

Thank you for all of your help everyone!!!!!!!! I am sure once Julia gets things back under control and catches her breath, she'll post.

Just got off the phone with Julia.

Miracle appears to be herself and is eating and drinking (on her own) and at this moment is sleeping. Julia did decide to go with a round of AB's; first dose of Cipro is in. Something very similar to this occurred maybe 3 months ago, but she pulled out of it within 20 minutes and today it took a couple hours. Those of you that know me well know I do NOT jump to chemicals immediately, but when it's time to jump I jump with both feet and without hesitation.

I suggested to Julia that it may be a good idea to offer Miracle fluids 2 more times tonight (before Julia goes to bed) and then again first thing in the morning.

As I was on the phone with her she was dishing up dinner for her family...it's been a long day for them.

Thank you everyone for all of the help (phone calls, PM's, posts). I (and Julia & Miracle too) really appreciate it. :grouphug:grouphug:grouphug

I am concerned that she seemed in pain, when they tried to stimulate her. The ABs should take care of a UTI. Have they seen her urinate yet?

Maybe offer fresh cranberries, they can be soothing to an uncomfortable bladder.

Prayers coming from my way.:Love_Icon:Love_Icon:Love_Icon

I just wanted to throw in my 2 cents. I think it is a good idea to start her on meds. I would always prefer to be safe than sorry. Since my 11 year old Peanut had a bladder infection a bit ago, I wanted to mention some of her symptoms. She acted pretty normal except she was less active, slept more, urinated often and had a white-ish vaginal discharge (gross). Her urine was also cloudier than usual. I treated her with SMZ for around 3 weeks because it was so bad and she is so old. I chose the SMZ because it is mild and she is an old lady. :poke

If this has happened before I would think that perhaps it may be something else that needs to be addressed. Hopefully whatever she has is cleared up with the Cipro! Good luck and fingers crossed for Miracle :glomp

Hey All,

I just wanted to give you update on Miracle but first I wanted to THANK helped Miracle offering prayers, suggestions and help. I truly believe that Milo's Mom saved little Miracles life because I was in such a panic, my mind went blank when she started crashing. It was a blessing to have Milo's Mom stay on the phone with me the entire time while trying to bring Miracle back around. I have been in touch with Milo's Mom and StepnStone for the past 3 days and I'm grateful to have had the help, advice and all of your prayers!!!

Day 1: Miracle Crashed. Gave molasses & sugar water to get her blood sugar up. Miracle was having problems holding her temp., she was kept on heating pad until she started coming back around. Through out afternoon and evening gave her sugar water & she would drink anywhere from 3 - 6 cc's at a time. StepNStone advised me to give her simithicone drops (infant gas drops) and within 20 minutes she had her 1st movement (small, black, hard pellets) and right after she urinated a small puddle. Looked a little darker than usual. Continued sugar water decreasing sugar ratio to water until evening. Gave her yogurt with probiotics. She ate 1 HHB, few veggies and watermelon before bedtime. Started her with loading dose of Cipro/Baytril. Woke her up 2x during the night and offered sugar water, she drank very little but hydration seemed to improve. Also noticed swelling in vagina and a little darker in color.

Day 2: (She was having problems keeping hydration in. I would hydrate and 30-40 min later her fluid went back down.) Bowel movements looked better this morning (Raw rice size, medium brown color, softer) Milo's Mom recommended formula and to try offering. I did and she loved it. Through the day she had total of 26 cc's of diluted formula (2 extra parts of water). Miracle was really good about taking fluids today. (No Sugar Water) Tried all different things to get fluids in her that she would like. (ex. Crushed watermelon in water, frozen blueberries in water, diluted regular sugarless applesauce mixed with baby blueberry banana applesauce (has sugar). She had 2 HHB's, veggies, fruits, tried pedialyte but she refused. Drank plain water. Gave AB's. Did not wake her during the night to drink. Talked to StepNStone and he advised if she was still having problems holding hydration to do Sub Q tomorrow.

Day 3 (Today): Miracle is holding fluids better. Still getting as many fluids as I can in her. Will be watching her to see how she holds fluids in and will decide within next few hours to sub q. I'm pretty sure she is going into her 1st heat because about 1 week before day 1 her attitude was outrageous!!! She was more aggressive than usual. She has also showed aggression when eating her favorite veggies (broccoli & frozen peas) She thinks I'm trying to steal them from her so she yells at me if I get too close! Been giving her the probiotics sprinkled on 1/2 blueberry (cut in half and give her half with probiotics) and she takes it with no problem. Giving her AB's 2x day. I just put her back in her cage for some down time but before I did, Miracle was gathering paper towels, sticks...ect and starting to make a nest in her cage.

I will keep you updated. Thank you everyone that helped me with Miracle. I couldn't have done it without you guys :glomp:Love_Icon

God Bless,

Julia
