Hi everyone,

I first posted to TSB in May or June of this year when I had a squirrel with a bad leg injury. He recovered after about a month and a half but then disappeared. I had actually thought that something must have happened to him, but then he showed up again the other day for the first time in months. I was absolutely thrilled to see him! He seemed fine that day, but when he came around this morning, he had another injury - this time to his face - and was dripping blood. I'm posting some pictures below. Would appreciate advice from anyone who sees this.

Aw, he has quite the owie there. We tend to assume that these aerial acrobats do everything perfectly, but the fact is, squirrels fall all the time, sometimes from great heights, and sometimes they hit branches and things on the way down.

If he is able to breathe okay, and if he can eat - if he didn't damage teeth as well - he will likely be fine. Try feeding him something that requires some chewing - even a peanut (they usually eat them instead of burying); and see if he has difficulty. If not, the bleeding will stop and he looks to be a strapping, healthy boy - I bet he will be just fine.

Thanks so much, Critter Mom. I gave him a walnut and he didn't seem too have a problem cracking it open, so I guess that's a good sign. He has been my very favorite squirrel for so many years and I was so happy to see him reappear the other day that it scared me when I saw him dripping blood today. He is quite the little warrior! Thank you again - I'll keep an eye on him!

What a little tough guy he is! He gets pasted in the schnoz and stops by for a walnut??!! I don't know if you have ever been hit in the nose, but for sure you don't feel like stopping for lunch!

I actually took a little video of him. His nose was bleeding and he was wiping it off and then licking his little hand in between chomps of his walnut. :Love_Icon
