Hi all,

I'm not sure if this is life threatening or not. My 15 week old female, Ziggy, ate 1/2 of a pencil eraser. I'm not sure if I need to take her to the vet or if it'll pass or if she's sick. I'm just incredibly worried. She's about 250 - 275 g last time I weighed her (a week ago). Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I don't think there is much you can do and as long as she didn't swallow it whole, I think she is fine. Get her to drink fluids and help to flush it.:grouphug

Here's a picture of how much she ate. She's running around like normal, although she's in time-out in her sleep cage.

Okay, thank you so much! She's drinking water mixed with a little pedialyte now. She normally doesn't do this, eating inedible things. She doesn't even like people food! Maybe it's 'the teenage years.'

Kids eat them so I think she will be fine.
Choking would have been my worry and that ship has sailed.

Pencil erasers are made out of several different products such as synthetic rubber,
vinyl and other gum type products. Pencil erasers are also made out of a synthetic
soy based gum which very well could explain the sudden taste for pencil tops.

Outside of choking which obviously is not a concern at this point, the plus side may
be they poop and erase the evidence. (JK) :gigg

Yeah, they won't eat their blocks but an eraser?? Yum!! Don't worry...my squirrel has eaten the buttons off of more TV remotes than I care to think about. When they get to the point where I am randomly pushing things just to see what happens to the TV because all of the writing is long gone I go get a "fresh" one for him to eat...
