Need advice/help - I just got a call from someone who is saying she has a large group of flying squirrels in her house. she caught two and doesn't know what to do. She has had them in a cage with peanuts for 2 days AAARRRRGGGHHH. She says she is an animal lover and doesn't want to hurt them, BUT,,,,, they can't live in her house all winter, they are becoming a nuisance.
What can she do, how can she catch and relocate them all? Does anyone have suggestions?
I gave her diet information, she is going to go out and buy meal worms and some other stuff right now. I told her I'd gather as much info as possible and call her back within the hour.
We are in Orange County, NY what do I do to help the flyers as well as her?
Thanks,

Aren't you guys having a major winter storm right now? I would release these two where they were caught for now. I would have a plan before I proceed with this. Unless you can find a rehabber willing to take them all, which I doubt, they have no chance of survival at all.

No we are 75 North of NYC and the storm is up in Rochester, Buffalo that part of NY.
She has agreed to let them stay until Spring and then I'll help her put together a game plan. Turns out they knew about them last year and since it was quiet this summer/fall she thought they all moved out.
She has an injured on, I guess during the catching they did something to him/her. She says the head is cocked to the side I guess I'll take that one and if it heals, I'll bring it back to her house for release.
Any idea on how to figure out their egress points?
Thank you everyone.

Are they in an attic? If so. run an extension cord and stick several of those clamp on lights up there. Turn them on when it is full dark out and then walk around the house looking for light where it shouldn't be.

I was so happy to hear this. It seemed cruel to evict them at the beginning of a really harsh winter. It was unlikely that any rehabber would take on "a large group of flyers" for overwintering. :shakehead I think spring time and a game plan will give the best outcome for all involved. :thumbsup
