I sent a PM to one of the TSB members and they suggested I put myself out there and make myself known, so here goes... I hope this is the right place to post!

I am looking for a squirrel who needs a home. Raising Duncan last year was one of the best experiences of my life. It had its challenges but "Dunky" became my absolute best friend. It inspired me to go ahead and get my rehabber's license so I am now in the process of learning, learning and more learning while I collect cages and get my rehab space cleared out.
When Dunky vanished three weeks ago, it left a huge hole in my heart and in my life. I am trying to have faith in the words that people posted to me but it's still terribly painful and I miss him.

I've been on the board for about a year and I read all the time although I don't post much. I'm really shy, clinically so, so social interactions are very intimidating to me. It's the reason I like animals so much more than people. :)
I live in North Central Vermont. Me, hubby and my 16 year old daughter. We have a small farm on 16 acres and I work from home. Our house is a zoo - I hobby raise handfed birds and have for more than 20 years. Two dogs (both are bird and rodent safe), a bunch of small birds and three parrots, hedgehogs (my daughter raises them) and a recently adopted degu. Outside are ponies, sheep, goats, pigs, turkeys and 3 chickens. Other than taking my daughter to and from school, I am home most of the time.

I would love to offer a home to a flyer, chipmunk or NR squirrel. Dunky was housed in a double unit Ferret nation cage but after seeing how some have made multi-unit cages by locking them together, I think I am going to do the same. (Anyone know if the Ferret Nation can link up with a Critter Nation?)
So if you know of anyone looking for a home, I need a squirrel buddy!

What a wonderful offer from someone who sounds like a perfect squammy-to-be! I'm sure you won't be squirrel-less for very long after than introduction. :grin3

I'm very glad that you made the post. Just keep looking. Like I said, I think there are two on here looking for homes, and we have arranged sq trains transporting over long distances. how far are you willing to travel? it looks like the sq in IL that has a malocclusion may need a home. And unfortunately, of late, we've had a streak of people show up trying to get rid of their squirrels because they were moving, had life changes, or just weren't able to care for them anymore. Very frequently, we have a lot more sqs looking for homes than are available.

how far are you willing to travel?

I am probably good for 3 hours, maybe 4 one way but since I am often feeding babies (birds usually), I can't be gone too long. The upside/downside of farm life is that a vacation is unheard of. It would be nice to actually see a part of the world one day but then... who would feed my babies?? :grin2

I did contact someone in NJ who was looking but I don't think they were interested in seeing the baby go that far away.

And thank you so much for those saying I sound like a great home. My animals mean the world to me but Dunky will always be an incredible experience for me. Tonight it's been three weeks since I last saw him and I can't even comprehend how much I miss him.

Maybe you could meet half way, or maybe someone's in between. Many sqs have gone far further.
