View Full Version : Does this hole look familiar to anyone?

Jill was fine yesterday afternoon. I let her out and then took a quick shower and she was sitting on the back of the couch chewing her belly and there was a lot of blood. I forgot to take pics yesterday but here is today. I left her for maybe 10 minutes. She is confined to living room, kitchen, and dining room. Winston my RGS was also out and they don't like each other and just usually ignore each other. I don't think he could have bit her as he only has lower incisors and he's tried to nip me once or twice and it's literally all gums, no pain and no piercing. Today it is a noticeable hole? I thought maybe electrocuted but rooms are squirrel proofed and nothing she could have gotten into or is plugged in. Was this a worm? She has been inside all her life. She occasionally gets a couple wax worms or meal worms so maybe one got loose in her cage? I've checked and nothing but I'm clueless??? It's a hole or a deep puncture but it's a perfect hole, no tear and I don't have anything she could have poked herself with. Should I take to vet?

When I first saw it I thought it was her vulva.. But it's up near her her ribs kinda right?
Are there two holes.. Looks like a little one near the big one.

Is that her nipple to the left of the hole? It sort of looks like a smaller hole in the pic.

Can you better describe where on her belly this is?
Is there any chance you can get pictures from different angles?

It's in her chest/belly area. There is another mark but it's very small, still has fur on it so I can't tell if it's a tiny tiny hole or a scratch. If I put Neosporin on it she eats it off. I gave her some tramadol last night in case it hurt.

To me, this looks more like something coming out versus something going in. For example, pus or ingrown hair coming out versus a bite going in.

Yes I'm shocked at the hole. I don't believe we have bot flies here... and our windows stay shut with ac on....I'm perplexed. My vet isn't in today.....I guess I will have to wait and see.

So I just looked at Ellie's belly so I could get a better perspective of location and what's in that area.
Ellie happens to have 3 long belly whiskers in that area.
Do you think it is possible that she somehow irritated the follicles and had ingrown belly whiskers? Which then made a small abscess/zit and she chewed it?

I have to agree... the way the hole is made looks to be some thing that has came out.
I would wash it and keep it clean with some Neosporin or diluted Betadine.

Personally, I'd treat as an abscess. Drain, clean, & monitor and then have your vet take a look. The smaller spot makes me wonder a bit and if this was/is an abscess is the small spot is another abscess forming/seeding to another area.

I don't see her whiskers there so maybe. I'll keep an eye on it and get her to the vet Monday. She does not like me messing with it. She chews and eats off any Neosporin.

I'm thinking its possibly a fistula.
