I posted in non emergency but folks are busy and I appreciate that. Still, I'd like to get my little guys started on the Albon I picked up at the vet this afternoon. My husband has a math brain and rattled off a bunch of numbers. He didn't just say "give the little guys THIS much. That's what I need. They have a pretty heavy Coccidia infestation. I have Albon oral suspension 5%. The package instructions says 10/15 mg per kg. OK-- in dumb-ese--How much of this stuff should I start my babies on? Two more are sick--and it smells like the original guys. Buddy is 137 grams on the vets scale (mine is a little higher) HELP!!!!!! I hate being mathematically impaired but I am. Ask me to write a paragraph on a Coccidia infestation--no worries, but DOSING! None of my brain cells talk to each other.

I am totally lost here chickenlegs. I went to the site and it says the initial dose is 25 mg/lb (55mg/kg of animal body weight, which is close to what the book says for dosing of 50 mg/kg.
So I guess my question is, why does your package instructions say 10/15 mg per kg.? Was this written by your vet or is that the instructions that are in the package from the manufacturer?

The 10/15 mg per kg by mouth every 12 hours is on the package label from the vet. Box says 55 mg per kg for leading dose and 12.5 for maintenance doses every 24 hours. That would be 27.5 mg per kg leading dose and 6.25 following doses every 12 hours, right? The example on the box is for a 5 pound dog, 25 ml leading dose and 1.25 ml daily doses. Only thing I'm clear on is "shake well before using"

EXACTLY! My wonderful husband wants to show me on paper how to work the problem with a test tomorrow. I LOVE having a brilliant mind at my disposal but I just need the dosing for a 140 (roughly) gram squirrel NOW. He's not a squirrel person. He doesn't "get" it. :shakehead:shakehead:shakehead

I will scan what Rich wrote out and you can ask your husband. :grin2 Actually he's right so no need to bother hubby.
He was explaining it to me, I dozed off for a while, and this is what I woke up to: :shakehead
