Hello everyone!! I am so thankful to have found this site. My cat brought home a baby squirrel a few weeks ago. I think he's a grey squirrel. He was only about 2 weeks old when I got him. I rehydrated him with pedialyte and started him on the esbilac. He is now about 6 weeks old and is growing by leaps and bounds. I have ordered the henry's pet bars and am awaiting their arrival. I have many questions.......How big should we build his cage and what should we build it out of? Also, how long should he be left in the cage per day? What types of toys, etc should be in the cage? What about litter box? Also, how many hammocks or nesting places should there be? I want him to have plenty of stimulation while he is in the cage and I am at work. I don't think I can release him until spring. Also, since he is an only-squirrel, will he be able to live on his own in the wild? What about biting? I apologize for all of the questions but I am a first-time squirrel mom and really want this little guy to have the best life possible. Thanks so much for all of your help!!

Welcome to TSB. We have a whole area for caging discussions, so you can look through that:

They do like their hammocks and cubes to sleep/hide in, so I hope you have at least one of them.

Does he have a stuffed animal buddy about his size (no plastic eyes or bean filling to choke on)? They love them.

Are you using Esbilac puppy power with proibiotics?

Most people give as much out of cage time as possible. Many get their own squirrel-proofed rooms.

They can be fine as singletons but do better when released with others.

Are you feeding 5-7% of body weight and following proper feeding technique:
