I have written recently about my wild friend, Itsy, that got bit by a cat and is recovering inside with me. He has not been out of his cage except for cleaning the cage, my rehabber friend comes over to do it for me. He seems content and loves me to pet his tail from the outside of the cage. I feed him grapes from my fingers and he has never tried or even by accident bit me. When the rehabber brought him over to me two weeks ago yesterday he had just had a bath. How often should I bathe him? Better yet, how do I do it? I haven't the faintest idea and his wound on his hind leg and cracked bone in same area is still healing so I don't want to upset him unnecessarily. I love this little boy so much. I read to him, we play, I sing him songs and he is so attentive, I just want the best for him.

Is there some reason that you feel he needs to be bathed? Is he able to relieve himself properly? Does he lay in his own urine? Because if he has some mobility and isn't laying in his own pee, squirrels don't need bathing. I would imagine your rehabber friend did it to rid him of outside bugs, fleas, etc., but if he is indoors he won't need one for that, either.

Sorry, I just wasn't sure if he needed one. Yes, he sleeps in a little nest he has made outside of his igloo and uses the igloo for his potty needs. He is a little cleaning nut, grooming himself daily. He is the joy of my life and I spend most of the day with him, talking, petting through the cage, playing a little game with him that I made up where we each tug at his blankie and he seems to love it when I sing to him so I made up a song about Itsy going to town to look for "girl squirrels"...I know it sounds crazy but he is the best little "roomy" in the world! Thanks for your information as I am sure that Itsy would rather I didn't attempt a bath for him!!:
