How long when babies are gone do momma squirrels quit producing milk? I had thought I read before it was 24 hours?

I found at least one site that agrees with you. It says, "An important piece of information given to me by one of the foremost squirrel rehabilitators in the country is that squirrel moms will stop lactating after 24 hours if there are no babies..."

Is there a way to delete my post after the editing time is over? I am guessing my response was not helpful so I do not wish to leave it if up if it did not answer the Q satisfactorily.

No need to delete it --I see this thread as useful.... we have two members confirming
the lactating time for a squirrel is over with in 24 hrs after nursing has stopped.

How long until nipples recede? If ever? I'm making friends with a mommy sq near my grocery store and I;m wondering if she's still got kiddies she's overwintering. Just yesterday she took some almonds from my hand. I didn't even think we were to that point, but when I was putting another one down, she just came up and gently took it. Then a few more after that.
