I don't know what to do... I am in Hampton GA, I tried calling Noah's Ark the only local place that I know of that deals with Squirrels but they close at 3pm est... Please what can I do??? Anything, do I clean him up and feed him and take him tomorrow when they open... I am freaking I will post a phone number if someone will call me... help...

What are you feeding them formula wise? --how often and how much?
How old are the squirrels? --and need weight!!

they are about 8 weeks old and eating about 13 to 15ml of Esbliac and free feeding Oxbow Rat food...

Is the Esbilac with Probiotics? --this is the only kind you should be using
And how much do they weigh? --we feed 5-7% of their body weight every 6 hours at this age.

Yes the right version of Esbiliac and 141g and about every 6 to 7 hrs... doing best i can with a 3yr with me :)

crap I am over feeding, or am I they seem so hungry...

Yes, at 141 grams the most they should be eating is 10cc - therefore, the diarrhea would
be a sign of over feeding. Cut back on the feeding and the poops should start to become
more solid in a day or two. *Please keep in mind that squirrels always act like they are
starving, but give them a few minutes after eating and they will calm down

..... the longest in between feeding should only be 6 hours. (except for night time)

At 8 weeks old you can start to add in hhb and once they have accepted squirrel block
you can start to add in healthy vegetables and wild plants, then a few nuts & fruits.

Squirrel Block / HHB:

If it has been 6 hours since he last ate you can ahead and feed him just 10 cc then stop.
If the poop does not become solid in 24 hours I would do a few feedings of Homemade
Pedialyte to flush out his system....... then start over with the 10 cc formula.

*do not start any new foods until this issue is resolved.

Homemade Pedialyte:
1 cup warm water
1 tbsp sugar
1 tsp salt

We here at TSB recommend the HHB (2 blocks per day)
http://www.henryspets.com/hi-protein-blocks/

and you can also use HT (Harlan Teklad) from Ebay if it is more affordable for you.
$12 for 5 lbs

I doubt that is causing the problem but Kaytee makes a cheap block if money is a concern. Sounds like you might be over feeding. I would do as Rapsody instructed but I would omit the SALT at this point.

The blood would be coming from irritation of the bowel. Try cutting back to the 10 cc's and you might add some CANNED PUMPKIN.. NOT PIE MIX.. but pure pumpkin.

If those things don't fix it.. then consider getting medications from a vet or something.

If Noahs ark is a vet... do go be seen and get a fecal run. Do the poo;s smell funny and what color are they. For me a picture would help.

This is the block I am talking about. HHB is better .. but if your in a bind .. then .. also some people give this block after the daily HHB block has been given.

And what is his activity level? Good? normal?

IMHO, The Ox bow is not terrible. The Kaytee is better over the counter block. HHBs are the best, however, but those others will certainly be ok. I trained at a hugh center that takes in about 800 or more baby squirrels each year and they feed rodent block. They cannot do any better with that many squirrels and they release many healthy looking squirrels too. How much blood are you talking about???

One more question.. how long have you had this little guy?

Was he injured when you brought him in?

JoeMc

we have had him for about 4 to 5 weeks now, so were guessing about 8 to 9 weeks... will post pics soon...
