Don't know if this is life threatening or not, but figured this is a good place to start..

I found this thread, but not really much help solution wise, awesome informative wise: http://thesquirrelboard.com/forums/showthread.php?45853-Anyone-else-ever-seen-Food-Seizures-in-a-squirrel&highlight=seizures

I got a little boy today who has constant food seizures that last for about 5 seconds each then goes back to sucking on the nipple.
During his second feeding he started seizing up pretty badly. Arched his back kinda froze up and his mouth gaped for a good few minutes. I panicked, I admit. I didn't give any molasses because he had eaten almost all of his formula already. I held him when it started and pet him during it. He eventually came out of it, but what do I do next time that happens? What can I do to prevent them? What kind of long term damage will this cause? How do I check to see the causes? I check the Wild Mammal Babies book, but there's a lot of variables...

Sorry, still kinda panicking.

I try to wiggle the syringe inside their mouths when I have 'guppy mouths', it seems to sort of keep them from going into that trance state in the first place. Wrapping him up tightly might help as well while you are feeding (if you are not already). Although they can be scary to watch, I do not believe they are truly dangerous. I have only had a few in the years of doing this, but that is what I did. I worked to keep them from zoning out while eating as best I could.

It's not a real sezuires .. It's guppy mouth or nursing coma .. I have heard it called many things.

EDIT
I should have read duckman a thread before commenting . Does yours do it with solids also?

Good to hear, but that is scary when it happens for the first time.

Ask Pappy, I was scared at first too and now I could just punch the little jerk in the nose (obviously not really...:nono)...:rofl4 It drives me CRAZY!!! Not at all dangerous, just a ridiculous habit that hopefully passes as they grow older.

Haha, czarina really helped calm me down because boy was I terrified! :glomp

If they don't grow out of it, it'll still never be dangerous?
