I found a squirrel yesterday I believe may have been hit by a car. Does anyone know where I should take him near Memphis
Thank You,
Flash
PS He bit me. I haven't seeked treatment tho. The punture wounds don't look/feel infected
What is the chance of me catching anything from this IYO?

You will be fine from the bite (squirrel do NOT have rabies) --keep the area clean
and apply Neosporin to the bite a few times a day to aid in healing.

THis place looks like it might be good and is only 30 min away:

Always be sure to call and make sure they won't euthanize unless necessary.

Okay. That's pretty much what I've been doing. Thank You!

Thank You! That's exactly what I was looking for. Will contact tomorrow
Yes, no kill is what I am looking for. I called the local Emergency Animal Hospital and they directed me to Animal Services. Animal Services wouldn't say what they would do with him other then "They Would Take Care Of Him"
I didn't save his life AND get bit just to have him killed
: )

Can you post some pics? We can often tell a lot from them. It'll give a good idea what to feed.
Here is basic care. Make sure hydration is good:

That link is for babies? This guy is full size. He's your typical big tail grey Squirrel
Tried uploading a pic to no success
He's looking good so far. I wonder if I should just open the cage?

Are you going ot take him to the wildlife place? How is he acting?
Though that link is for babies, those rules apply to pretty much any sq, for heat, hydration, etc.

The wildlife resourch officer was super nice. She couldn't accept him however because she works for the state of MS and I am in TN
I do have some good news. I went to change his water and he BOLTED!! He now resides in my oak tree. Didn't appear to me he was injured at all
I guess as long as I don't come down with a rapid disease all of this was worth the effort
Thanks for all of your help

There has never been an incident where a sq transmitted rabies, according to the CDC.
Please keep an eye on him. Perhaps provide some good food? Like quality nuts such as almonds, walnuts and hazelnuts?

Yes. I work from home and will be keeping my eye out for him. We have LOTS of squirrels here, so trying to pick him out of a line up might prove difficult :grin3
I have almonds (store bought/human consumption)? and a very large walnut tree in my backyard

Just as long as the almonds are unsalted they will be fine; no salted nuts of any kinds for the squirrels!
