I sent this in a PM to a member, as I've seen them post several times about being able to dose ab's for ppl, but i haven't had a response (could be time zones, work, etc). I'm nervous about waiting too long, so I'm going to post here so maybe someone can get in touch with me?

I have a little gray. He's probably around 7 weeks old (best guess) and weighs 127g. We've had some issues with a littermate suckling on all the boys, but little Timmy gets it the worst. I'm staying on top of his injury (tip of penis scabbed, soaking in warm water few times/day, antibiotic ointment and helping express his bladder to keep him from blocking up), but today, I was woken up to him "screaming" and noticed he was incredibly swollen on and all around his penis. I immediately did a soak, removed the scab and helped him get rid of the built up pressure by slowly expressing his bladder. He was making angry, grunting type noises when i applied pressure to his belly (swollen bladder? I assumed that was a pain sound) and i was careful not to push too much while handling him, but did what i could to get out what I can. Since then, I've done it again twice and the swelling around his penis has gone down dramatically (area of the testicles still looks a little fluid-filled, but it doesn't seem to bother him if i gently press in and around the area and he's stopped grunting when i touch his belly). He's a little less active than normal but not lethargic (again, I assume pain has a lot to do with it). I will keep up the soaking every couple of hours for now, as I worry about him blocking up again, but I also noticed that his urine smells stronger than normal. I'm worried that a UTI may be setting in? His urine is clear, not cloudy, but with all the blockage, would it be a good idea to give him a couple days of ab's to help? I have 500mg cipro tabs on hand in case. Also, would ibuprofen be good for pain/inflammation? I have both children's liquid and adult gel caps. Any help would be great! Thanks.

I will help in a PM. You want to use INFANT ibuprofen.

Hard to get a good photo, but this is what i was able to do. He pees, but just drops unless i help him express, and then it comes out in a stream.

Thank you! I'll watch for your message and get hubby to pick up the infant drops on the way home.

At 127 grams you can give .030cc Infant Motrin drops to ease his discomfort and pain / every 4 hrs.

You still need some one to dose the Cipro 500mg for the UTI.

How about separating the suckle-her from the suckle-he? :poke?

I separated them for four days. The suckler seemed to have stopped - he'll even do it to himself but hadn't at all yesterday or the night before - so I reintroduced last night. :( Woke up to this this morning. Looks like the separation may be longer than we thought.

You can also try making the feeds closer together to help that urge to suckle.. You don't want to over feed.. But slowing the feed down or spacing it out just right "might" help when you do re introduce.

I would defiantly do the anti inflammatory . He may or may not need an antibiotic but if you can get that swelling down it will reduce the chance of bacteria setting up.

Sorry I didn't respond to the PM. I'm not on TSB much on the weekends. It's always best to post to the board anyhow.
