Hello everyone, it's been a while since I have been on here. A couple of weeks ago I got a message from a friend needing help with a baby squirrel found. Danny is approx. 4-5 weeks old, eyes almost open. I have had her close to 2 and 1/2 weeks now. She is currently eating Foxvalley about 3-4 times a day. I am having some personal issues with my son and I don't think I am going to be able to continue to care for her through release. She is a singleton and really needs some other babies to learn with. Squeak is certainly not impressed with baby I have in her room. She is such a sweetheart. I can post up pics this evening when I get home from work.

Thanks everyone.

Edit- I almost forgot...I am in Columbus, OH. I am not sure how far I can travel right now as I need to be close to the city.

Ok, we'll work on finding a rehabber for you. :thumbsup Have you called around anywhere?

Can someone change the title of this thread? Not sure who is close to Columbus... does anyone know?

List of wildlife rehabbers in Ohio:

http://wildlife.ohiodnr.gov/species-and-habitats/orphaned-and-injured-wildlife/licensed-wildlife-rehabilitators

Make sure they will raise and release and won't euthanize (some will say they will but will euthanize because they were first raised by non-rehabbers, for example.)
Ask a lot of questions, ask if you can see the babies throughout the process, ask if you can see them on release day, ask if they will provide updates. You'll get a good feel for the rehabber this way. If we can find a rehabber for you, even better.

Thank you.

I haven't called anywhere because I had such a hard time when Squeak was a baby. And honestly, I know that I won't have to worry about non loving rehabbers finding someone here.

I totally understand. It's just if there is any way to find another good rehabber then great! There's not enough good ones to go around! :grin2

Still looking for you - hang in there!

Found these rehabbers recommended in another thread by SR&BT. I have also PMd Monipenny and SR&BT but her PM storage is full - DOES ANYONE HAVE HER EMAIL?

Alicia Elam in Hamilton county is great. Her number is (513)546-7179.

Also Kathy Israel in Butler County. Her number is (513) 423-3728.

I know both and they are great! One should be able to help or at least direct the finder to someone who can.

It is my understanding that this woman (see below) is the one that oversees all of the rehabbers in Ohio. She may be able to give you some contacts.

Kathy and Alicia are in my neck of the woods. Alecia is my permit holder. They are closer to Cincinnati than to Columbus.

Hi, Fireweed thanks for directing me to this thread. I just received two 7 week old babies tonight. I am about to start them on esbilac with probiotics after hydrating them. I am sort of in a pickle as I don't have enough housing for more. I currently have these 2 in a large tote and have to figure out a cage large enough for them and space in my house is limited as I already have a chicken coop in my kitchen for my 3 legged squirrel. While I do have a smaller cage, I will likely end up putting Lily back in that and place the 2 new ones into her cage in a couple weeks. I suppose if these older boys were nice to the little girl I could take her if we can meet half way, I live 3 hours from Columbus, near Akron. Is the baby still needing a new home?

Oh could you tell, I just talked myself into it.

Yes :) She still needs a home. She is currently in a cage that I could send with her if need be. And meeting half way would be great. Her eyes should be open any day now and I would send the foxvalley with her as well.

How big is this cage, Zeemiles? I'm wondering if it will give her room for the winter as she gets a bit bigger?
Monipenny and I are trying to work out a couple things. It's not certain whether she'll be able to overwinter but there's a possibility.

Did you call those other rehabbers? One of them might know someone closer and trustworthy.

I ordered a cage today from Henry's for the boys I just got so Lily can stay in her cage. I would like to acclimate the little girl with the boys if I get her, hopefully they accept her as their little sis so they can grow and be released together. I just don't know how big the cage is from Henry's, not ever had one. Does anyone know if it's large enough for 3 squirrels? If you have a cage, that would be helpful, maybe I could put the cage together making it larger for them.

What is the babies name? Did you say it was Danny?

Ok, Zeemiles - looks like we have a great home for your little girl. Please see your PM for contact info so you can discuss details. :thumbsup

Good luck and let us know if it's going to work out!

Yes it is large enough for 3 squirrels. My first crew of 5 lived in my Henry's cage. It was tight for them, but my 3 now have lots of room.

Good! Thanks, It just seems that these guys really could use a whole room to themselves you know?

They could. I have a room for a small red NR squirrel and it isn't enough, imo. A whole house for them is the only way *I'd* be happy! :grin2
But when you are releasing, it isn't really a big deal. As long as they have a chance to stretch their legs and jump about and not be in each others' face every second...
Sounds like the Henry's cage is gonna do the trick. :thumbsup
Soon enough they'll have the whole wide world. :alright.gif

Danny is doing so well, she fit right in with the boys, one is bigger and the other is smaller than her by a few grams. She enjoyed a small piece of avocado today, it was lip smacking good to her, she also nibbles on the HHB. Today she weighs 148 grams. I have all the babies transitioned onto half FV and half Esbilac with probiotics.

She is the sweetest, she grabs my face, holding me still to lick my lips (I'll take that as kissing). :Love_Icon:Love_Icon:Love_Icon Zeemiles knows that she is welcome to come visit Dani anytime and I am sure Dani would love to give her mommy kisses and hugs too. :hug
