My husband and I have been caring for a pinky for over a week. It seems very healthy, and we are more than willing to take care of it until its eyes open. We are concerned about keeping it longer, however, because we have cats and we want the baby squirrel to have a chance in the wild. I have called around but no one can take the squirrel. : ( Is there anyone on here who can take the squirrel either now or when its eyes open so it can be rehabbed to go back to the wild? We live in Brookhaven, but I am willing to travel *anywhere* in the Jackson area or south Mississippi (or even Southern Alabama/Mobile area).

I can take it. Right now I have 3 little ones close to that age. If it would help you out I will be traveling to Natchez on Thursday and will be going through McComb. I will be in Natchez until Sunday afternoon before heading back to the coast. I am not on a set travel time schedule so we could probably work out something that fits with your schedule.

Going to feed right now but I will check back later after I finish.

Arrangements have been made and I will be picking up this little one on Thursday. I am sure my little ones will just love having a new sibling to snuggle with.

She's been using the same formula I have so no transition period which is great. I'll post pics and add this little one's progress in my "Eight Is Enough" thread in the Nursery forum.

No problem at all. I will be dropping my oldest three back to Sandra to do the soft release and this little one will fit right in with my five little ones. I think some things are just meant to fall into place.

I am just so glad that goboinouterspace found TSB for this singleton and wanted to give this little one the best chance at a life in the wild. They do so much better in every way when they have siblings. There's a lot we can do for them but there is so much they gain from each other and I see it pay off when the day finally arrives for the outside cage door to open and they head out to begin life the trees.

:tinfoilA Little Nutty, you're Fantastic! I'd have been to Mobile west if you hadn't been johnny on the spot! I don't need another pinky at this point... but I know I can't say "No" (laughing at myself!)
So glad you hit the gas on this little one, he or she will be another great addition to Mother Nature!!

My thanks, :tinfoil

It actually worked out fantastic since I was heading up there anyway.

Sweet little Ruby is one of the easiest babies I have had but she is going to go with Czarina on Thursday when she picks up Little Louise. We think it will do Louise good to have her little buddy with her and since Ruby is probably going to be too small to release this fall then she will be released this spring. Czarina's boy, Churtle doesn't realize he's a squirrel so maybe Ruby will help him figure it out and be his release buddy. I guess a lot of that will depend on how well they get along together.:eek Hopefully Churtle will enjoy the company.
