I was gathering wild food for my lil' buddy and picked some rose hips. I know they aren't toxic and I'm assuming they are good for him, but I never see wilds eating them. He tore into them and probably ate the equivalent of one hip. Anyone have experience with them?
Thanks,
Vince

Although I have never given them to my greys, my flyers love them, as do my sugar gliders...lol I will have to try them with my greys and see if they like them.:tilt

Glad to see this. I have a huge rose bush so I will be out gathering up some treats for the crew. Is it okay to freeze them?

Once you have cleaned the rose hips they will stay good in the refrigerator for about a week or two, or you can freeze them. To do this, arrange the rose hips in a single layer on a cookie sheet and place them in the freezer. When they are frozen, transfer them to freezer bags or container. They will stay good in the freezer for up to a year....... make sure they are sealed tight with no room for frost bite.

:thankyou That will be a good wild food source for the flyers during the winter months.

I was out collecting wild rose hips last night! :highfive All my squirrels love them - Reds and Arctic Ground Squirrels. And even my dogs will take some as a little treat. I never see the wilds eating them, either. Except I do see remnants of them once in a while around the base of Squirrel Trees. So, I'm sure they are nommin on them but secretively... :poke
I'm thinking our wild hips might be a little tricky for a squirrel to get to since they are high enough up and the thin branches are so terribly prickly. :dono

Mine have always loved them. Very high in vitamin C.
