Hello guys! I found an orphaned fox squirrell, what I assume to be 3 to 4 weeks, eyes closed. Immediately hydrated her as best I could and began kitten formula at first then tapered to puppy formula after a day. The issue is she has eaten about only 50ccs of formula in 80+ hours. She just for the first time a few hours ago began urinating and urinated for about an hour off and on. She has not pooped in the 3 days I've had her. She is bloated, not horribly but I don't want to lose this baby so I'm trying to be extra careful. I have fed a drop of olive oil, massaged for hours off and on, washed in warm water. I can't get her to poop. Is her life in danger? I've stopped feeding her as of today to wait and see if she will pass something. Should I resume feeding? Is 50ccs even enough for her to be able to have something to poop? When she finally atleast starting peeing, she peed ALOT. Enough to reduce the bloat somewhat. Would have handed off to a caretaker but he closest one is to far and the get might want to put her down. Any help would be appreciated. I apologize if this isn't life threatening and I posted it here. I'm just very concerned for this baby and have lost to much sleep to let her pass away now.

Can you post a picture of her?
Also do you know how much she weighs.
Typically we recommend they eat 5-7% of their body weight at each feeding.

Are you feeding her Esbilac with probiotics?
Are you using a nipple and syringe?
Do you have her on a heat source, it shoud be half under the
container that you have her in, set at LOW.

You can give her infant Gas X, simethicone for bloat.

Here are some photos attached. I do not have a scale handy at the moment. I do not believe she's emaciated but the bloat could be hiding it. She is still moving around a decent amount and somewhat active.

Syringe and small nipples used. She hasn't been to receptive to food. She's been feeding better in the last day but I'm afraid to continue because she has not pooped. Yes plenty of heat. Not to much.

And no on esbilac. We could not find it at the local pet store. They had run out.

Do you have Royal Canine, I think that's what it's called in Canada. I've heard of people using that.
She doesn't look "too" badly bloated. BUT when you touch her tummy, does it feel hard or is it like
a balloon, where there is "some play" to it?
Some babies like their formula on the hotter side, so you may want to try that.
I have heard of little ones not pooping for a few days after they are first found, so
right now.........I wouldn't be too alarmed, though we do need to get her on track soon.

Try some apple juice and water. Do 3/4 water and 1/4 apple juice.

I don't think she looks bloated but I am new. Is her belly hard like a rubber ball or soft like a partially filled water balloon .
I have heard infant gas drops help.

You may want to post a profile shot of her belly.. You kno from the side.

I'm at walgreens now. How much infant gas x do I give her?

She has still yet to poop. The gas x did not reduce bloat. Going on 4 days without a bowel movement. I'm afraid she's going to become septic. Any other suggestions?

I;d try to get some fiber in her. I;d also give some apple juice. the sugar and the sorbitol in the AJ draw water into the gut, as does fiber. Perhaps get the flavorless kind you can mix into drinks at the drug store?

Is Thier anyway to force her to poop?

Anyone? She is more bloated than those pictures from last night. Still no poop. Should we feed her?? We got esbalic formula. What should I do? Were going to make the long drive to a squirrel rehabbed tomorrow. How can I make sure this baby survives or is she in danger? Massages/warm water baths once every hour or so to no affect. Only fed her once today as it made her more bloated. The poor little girl is so hungry too. Can I keep feeding her? Only been giving pedilyte and small doses of gas x and simthecone.

Hold on, let me get a contact number and you can call this person. Even if they can't physically take her,
hopefully they will know of someone that can.

I'll be right back.

I had this issue a few days ago. Try adding some water to her formula for a few feedings. (3 parts water instead of 2) That was the recommendation I got and it worked. The extra water and infant gas x seems to help. I was so worried about my little girl and the poop finally happened. Lots of it. I guess some babies have more gas/digestion issues than others. I know how you feel. Best wishes and good luck.
